MG owners from across Northern Malaysia recently converged in Langkawi for what has become the largest regional gathering of MG vehicles in the country to date. Supported by SAIC Motor Malaysia and organised by MG Alor Setar, the event brought together enthusiasts and their families for a weekend centred on community engagement and shared ownership experiences.

A total of 66 MG vehicles participated in the gathering, including 55 units of the MG5 sedan, nine MG HS SUVs, one MG4 electric hatchback and a single MG Cyberster roadster. The event attracted around 200 attendees, with family members and friends joining owners throughout the programme.

Beyond displaying their vehicles, participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss ownership insights and strengthen connections within the growing MG community. The gathering also highlighted the increasing presence of MG owners outside the Klang Valley, reflecting the brand’s expanding reach in other parts of the country.

One of the key activities during the event was a test-drive session featuring the locally assembled MGS5 EV. Attendees were able to experience the latest addition to MG’s Malaysian lineup and gain a closer look at the company’s direction in the electric vehicle segment.

According to SAIC Motor Malaysia Managing Director, Emory Qi, the company is encouraged by the development of MG owner communities in various regions across the country. He noted that owner engagement and positive ownership experiences contribute significantly to building awareness and confidence in the brand among prospective customers.

Qi also described the Langkawi gathering as an important milestone for MG enthusiasts in Northern Malaysia, citing the strong participation and sense of camaraderie among attendees. He expressed hope that similar regional events would continue to grow, potentially leading to a larger nationwide gathering in the future.

The event forms part of SAIC Motor Malaysia’s broader efforts to maintain engagement with customers beyond vehicle sales. Through dealer-led gatherings, road trips and community activities, the company aims to foster stronger relationships with owners while encouraging interaction among enthusiasts.

As the number of MG owners in Malaysia continues to increase, gatherings such as the Langkawi meet-up demonstrate how automotive communities are becoming an increasingly important aspect of the ownership experience, providing opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing and social interaction among members.
