Dongfeng Heavy Industries Sdn Bhd has officially marked its entry into Malaysia’s commercial trucking landscape with the launch of its dealership operations, introducing a comprehensive range of heavy-duty trucks tailored to meet the evolving needs of the nation’s transport and logistics sector.

Headed by industry veteran Mr Quek Wang, Executive Director of Dongfeng Heavy Industries Sdn Bhd, the company will operate from its headquarters in Jalan Meru, Klang. The establishment follows its appointment as an official distributor late last year, signaling a structured expansion strategy focused on long-term growth and service support in Malaysia.

At the launch, Dongfeng Heavy Industries introduced a carefully selected portfolio of heavy-duty vehicles designed to complement one another across multiple industrial applications. The initial range includes 4×2 and 6×4 prime movers, 6×4 and 8×4 tippers, as well as 6×4 cement mixers.

These models are engineered to serve key sectors such as construction, logistics, and infrastructure development, offering operators flexibility in fleet composition. The company emphasized that the vehicles are designed to comply with EURO V emission standards while utilising proven engine and drivetrain technologies from established global suppliers.

According to Mr Quek Wang, the strategy is to encourage customers to adopt a mixed fleet approach that maximises operational efficiency and versatility across different transport requirements.

A major highlight of the launch was the signing of a purchase agreement between Dongfeng Heavy Industries Sdn Bhd and Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles for 200 heavy-duty truck units. This milestone reflects strong confidence in the Malaysian market and reinforces the brand’s commitment to expanding its commercial footprint in the region.

In addition, Dongfeng Heavy Industries formalised an assembly agreement with Gemilang Coachwork Sdn Bhd, which will serve as the local CKD (completely knocked down) assembly partner. Several customer purchase agreements were also concluded during the same event, highlighting immediate market traction following the launch.

Representing the Chinese side, Wang Long, Chairman of the Board & Party Secretary of China Dongfeng Motor Industry Import & Export Co Ltd, extended his congratulations to the Malaysian partners. He noted that the development represents a significant step in strengthening Dongfeng’s presence in Malaysia, while enhancing customer support and aftersales capabilities.

The appointment of Gemilang Coachwork was positioned as a strategic decision aimed at reinforcing local assembly capabilities. Pang Jun Jie, Director of Gemilang Coachwork Sdn Bhd, highlighted the company’s strengths in precision manufacturing, systems integration, and strict quality control processes.

He emphasised that the company’s experience in transforming CKD units into fully compliant, market-ready commercial vehicles makes it a strong partner for Dongfeng’s ambitions in Malaysia’s heavy vehicle segment.

During the launch presentation, Quek Wang underscored the durability and reliability of the Dongfeng truck range, noting that the vehicles are engineered for demanding operating conditions. He pointed out that the brand’s reputation is reinforced by its long-standing use in highly rugged environments.

While acknowledging that no vehicle is entirely immune to breakdowns, he expressed confidence that Dongfeng trucks are designed to deliver strong uptime performance and operational reliability—an essential factor for transport operators.

Beyond product introduction, Dongfeng Heavy Industries also outlined its after-sales strategy, which includes the establishment of workshops in key strategic locations across Malaysia. These service centres will be held to strict operational standards to ensure consistent service quality.

A key feature of the support network will be mobile rescue services, designed to minimise downtime for operators facing unexpected breakdowns. According to Quek, this initiative reflects the company’s commitment to keeping commercial fleets on the road and supporting customer productivity.
