Weststar Maxus has taken a significant step towards advancing Malaysia’s sustainable transportation agenda with the signing of a strategic collaboration agreement with Yinson GreenTech, paving the way for the deployment of 300 electric commercial vans across the country.

The agreement, formalised during the opening day of the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), underscores a shared commitment to accelerating the adoption of electric mobility solutions within Malaysia’s commercial and logistics sectors.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister II and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, YAB Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof, alongside SAIC Maxus President Yang Haijing, The Weststar Group Managing Director Tan Sri Dr. Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim, and Yinson Holdings Berhad Group Executive Chairman Lim Han Weng. Representing the respective organisations were Julius Jonathan Netto, Chief Operating Officer of Weststar Automotive Division, Kelvin Soon, Managing Director of EV Charging and Leasing at Yinson GreenTech, and SAIC Vice-President Zhao.

At the heart of the agreement is Yinson GreenTech’s drivEV business, which has committed to procuring 300 units of the fully electric Maxus eDeliver 5 panel van. The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in supporting fleet electrification programmes and encouraging wider adoption of zero-emission commercial vehicles among Malaysian businesses.

The partnership reflects a broader industry shift towards sustainable logistics and transportation solutions. As businesses increasingly prioritise Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments, electric commercial vehicles are emerging as a practical pathway to reducing carbon emissions while improving operational efficiency.

Weststar Maxus has already established itself as a key player in Malaysia’s commercial EV segment through the deployment of hundreds of Maxus eDeliver 3 and eDeliver 5 electric vans to logistics operators nationwide. The addition of 300 new units further strengthens its contribution to the nation’s low-carbon mobility ambitions.

The Maxus eDeliver 5 has been engineered specifically for urban logistics and last-mile delivery operations. Powered by a 64 kWh battery, the van offers a driving range of up to 335 km on the WLTP cycle and supports DC fast charging from 20 to 80 percent in approximately 36 minutes. With a payload capacity of up to 1,200 kg, it delivers the practicality and performance required by modern commercial fleets.

The vehicle’s capabilities are further enhanced through integration with drivEV’s digital fleet intelligence platform, providing operators with real-time insights into vehicle utilisation, driver behaviour, energy consumption and carbon emissions. These tools enable businesses to optimise routes, improve productivity and reduce operational costs while advancing sustainability goals.

Speaking on the collaboration, Tan Sri Dr. Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim highlighted the growing importance of sustainability within the transportation industry, noting that cleaner and smarter mobility solutions are no longer optional but essential for future business growth.

Weststar Maxus Chief Executive Officer Syed Muhammad Animar described the partnership as an important milestone for Malaysia’s EV ecosystem, emphasising the role of the eDeliver 5 in supporting the future of logistics. Meanwhile, Yinson GreenTech’s Kelvin Soon reaffirmed drivEV’s commitment to helping businesses overcome barriers to electrification through comprehensive leasing solutions, charging infrastructure and digital fleet management technologies.

Beyond the signing ceremony, Weststar Maxus also used KLIMS 2026 as a platform to showcase its expanding vehicle portfolio, demonstrating the brand’s ambitions across both electric and conventional vehicle segments.

Among the highlights was the Maxus eDeliver 5 electric panel van, featuring advanced safety technologies such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Keeping Assist. Also on display was the facelifted Maxus T60 pickup, powered by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine delivering 120 kW and 375 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel-drive capability.

The company also unveiled the all-new Maxus Terron 9, a premium diesel-powered pickup equipped with a 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine producing up to 520 Nm of torque and enhanced off-road capabilities. Joining it was the Maxus eTerron 9, a fully electric pickup featuring a 102.2 kWh battery, dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and a driving range of up to 430 km on the WLTC cycle.

Completing the showcase was the new Maxus V90 Window Van, a spacious people mover capable of accommodating up to 15 passengers. Designed for corporate transportation, tourism and fleet applications, the V90 combines practicality, comfort and modern technology with a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine and six-speed automatic transmission.

The collaboration between Weststar Maxus and Yinson GreenTech represents more than a vehicle procurement agreement. It highlights a shared vision of building a cleaner, smarter and more sustainable transport ecosystem in Malaysia. As the country continues its transition towards low-carbon mobility, partnerships such as this are expected to play a pivotal role in accelerating electrification, reducing emissions and supporting long-term economic growth through innovative transportation solutions.
