Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) has achieved a significant milestone with the first international export of its locally assembled Hyundai STARIA, signaling Malaysia’s growing role in the regional automotive supply chain. The inaugural shipment, which departed on 3 June 2026, marks the beginning of STARIA deliveries to Thailand, where the 10-seater model will officially go on sale from 12 June 2026.
This development represents a strategic leap forward for HMY’s export ambitions, as the company positions Malaysia as a key production and distribution hub for Hyundai vehicles in Southeast Asia. According to Managing Director Ms. Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen, the achievement reflects Hyundai’s commitment to delivering globally competitive vehicles while strengthening its long-term investment in Malaysia’s industrial ecosystem. She noted that this milestone is only the beginning of Hyundai’s broader regional expansion, guided by its customer-focused philosophy, “Sentiasa di sisi anda.”
The Hyundai STARIA is currently assembled in Malaysia through Hyundai Motor Malaysia’s collaboration with Inokom, part of Sime Motors’ manufacturing operations located in Kulim, Kedah. This facility plays a central role in producing the STARIA, making it Hyundai’s first locally manufactured model in the country.
Beyond its production success, the STARIA has already earned recognition in the domestic market. Its 7-seater variant was named MPV ICE of the Year at the Malaysia Car of the Year (MCOTY) 2025 awards, highlighting its strong performance, refined comfort, advanced safety features, and distinctive futuristic design. These qualities extend across the entire STARIA lineup, including the 10-seater variant now set for its international debut in Thailand.
With this export milestone, Hyundai Motor Malaysia is not only expanding its footprint beyond domestic borders but also reinforcing Malaysia’s position as an emerging automotive export hub in the region—signaling a new chapter of growth for both the brand and the country’s automotive industry.
