Wing Hin Motorsports launched its 2026 racing season in emphatic fashion after securing six podium finishes, including two race victories, during the opening rounds of the TSS The Super Series and Thailand Super Series at the iconic Chang International Circuit.

Competing across the GT4 and Super Touring classes with a five-car lineup and 10 drivers, the Malaysian outfit demonstrated strong pace and consistency throughout the race weekend, immediately positioning itself as a serious championship contender once again.

The team’s GT4 title defence began on a high note with the #39 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 driven by Mitchell Cheah and Ryan Wong delivering a Pro-Am class victory and second overall finish in Race 1. Wong handled the opening stint cautiously before handing the car over to Cheah, who produced an impressive recovery drive from seventh position to finish runner-up overall.

Cheah later described the result as a positive start to the campaign, crediting the team’s preparation and hard work carried over from last season.

Race 2, however, proved far more dramatic. Starting from pole position, Cheah quickly built a small advantage before an early safety car period neutralised the race and erased his lead. The restart triggered an intense five-car battle for the lead, forcing the Toyota down to fourth place before the mandatory driver swap. Wong took over for the second stint and successfully held fifth position until the chequered flag.

While the GT4 category delivered excitement, Wing Hin Motorsports was equally dominant in the Thailand Super Series Super Touring Class, collecting four additional podium finishes over two races.

Saturday’s opening race saw Amer Harris and Nabil Azlan guide the #36 Toyota Vios to second place, while Dannies Ng and Jwan Hii secured third in the #38 Toyota Yaris after a determined drive. Another Toyota Vios, piloted by Nick Teo and Ian Wong, narrowly missed the podium in fourth place.

Hii praised the team’s efforts after the race, highlighting the competitiveness of the rookie campaign and acknowledging the squad’s work in developing a strong and competitive package.

Sunday’s second race produced even more drama. Starting from pole position, Amer defended the lead under relentless pressure throughout the opening stint before handing over to Nabil at the halfway point. Nabil rejoined still in front, but with only 10 minutes remaining he slipped to second place behind Thailand’s P. Pasarit in a Honda CRZ.

Refusing to settle, Nabil mounted a late charge and reclaimed the lead on the penultimate lap. Moments later, slight contact between the two cars caused a puncture for Pasarit, reshuffling the order and promoting the #38 Toyota Yaris driven by Ng and Hii into second place, temporarily completing an all-Toyota podium sweep.

Following a post-race investigation, the results were revised with Hii and Ng promoted to victory, while a five-second penalty dropped Nabil and Amer to third position.

Elsewhere in the field, the #39 Toyota Yaris pairing of Varunchit Wattanathanakun and female driver Mekkaradkeeta Kalantananda finished eighth, while Nick Teo and Ian Wong completed the weekend in ninth place.

Amer described the weekend as an encouraging start to the season, especially after the team narrowly missed out on stronger championship results last year. He also noted the team’s rapid progress in developing a competitive package capable of challenging for victories throughout the season.

Following a highly successful opening round in Buriram, Wing Hin Motorsports now shifts its focus to Round 2 of the TSS The Super Series and Thailand Super Series, which will take place during the prestigious Bangsaen Grand Prix street racing festival in Chonburi from 1 to 5 July.
