In celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, Grab Malaysia unveiled two significant initiatives aimed at enhancing safety, comfort, and economic opportunities for women using its platform. The company announced the introduction of Women-Only Rides (Beta) and launched a nationwide campaign to recruit more women driver-partners, reinforcing its commitment to creating a safer and more inclusive mobility ecosystem.
The newly introduced Women-Only Rides (Beta) service allows female passengers to be matched exclusively with female driver-partners. Initially available through Advance Booking in the Klang Valley, the feature responds to growing requests from women passengers and drivers seeking additional safety options, particularly for solo travel.
This ride option is visible only to women users on the platform and ensures that rides are fulfilled solely by verified women driver-partners. To access the service, passengers must complete a one-time identity verification process using their MyKad or passport, along with a selfie. The system cross-checks this information against official records to confirm gender eligibility.
According to Adelene Foo, Managing Director of Grab Malaysia, the new feature represents more than just a service upgrade.
“This launch reflects our long-standing commitment to safety and empowerment. Building on our existing safety infrastructure and the #SisBoleh initiative introduced in 2023, Women-Only Rides (Beta) creates a trusted space where women can travel and earn with confidence,” she said.
The initiative aims to deliver dual benefits—offering greater peace of mind for women passengers while creating more earning opportunities for women driver-partners. By prioritizing safety and trust, the platform hopes to support more women in achieving financial independence.
Women-Only Rides also complement existing public safety measures, such as women-only train coaches and dedicated parking areas, extending similar protections to the crucial “last-mile” journey.
The service was officially introduced during Grab’s International Women’s Day celebration, hosted by the company’s senior women leaders and attended by Lim Hui Ying, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development. The event recognized the contributions of women driver and delivery partners and highlighted a shared commitment to safer, more inclusive mobility across Malaysia.
To support potential demand for Women-Only Rides and encourage more women to join the platform, Grab also launched the Women Driver Acquisition Campaign, running from 8 March to 30 September 2026.
The nationwide initiative seeks to expand the community of women driver-partners while promoting flexible earning opportunities in the digital economy. New female drivers who join the platform will have the chance to earn rewards totaling RM100,000, including fuel vouchers and a grand prize of a Proton Saga.
Beyond financial incentives, the campaign aims to build a supportive network where women can benefit from flexible work arrangements while feeling safer and more confident on the road.
These new developments represent the continued growth of #SisBoleh, Grab’s women empowerment programme launched in 2023. The initiative focuses on three main pillars:
- #SisBoleh Drive With Confidence – promoting safety and security for women on the platform
- #SisBoleh LevelUp – offering skills development and professional growth opportunities
- #SisBoleh Community – fostering connection and support among women partners
Together, these pillars create a comprehensive ecosystem that helps women feel secure, capable, and supported from the moment they join the platform.
Both Women-Only Rides and the broader Grab platform operate on a robust safety framework designed to protect passengers and driver-partners alike. Key safety features include:
- Comprehensive onboarding checks including background and health screenings for driver-partners
- AI-powered facial verification to prevent fraudulent access to accounts
- Number masking to protect personal contact details
- Share My Ride, allowing passengers and drivers to share real-time trip information with trusted contacts
- 24/7 emergency SOS support through the “Get Emergency Help” button
- AudioProtect, encrypted audio recording activated during reported safety incidents and mandatory for late-night rides
- Trip monitoring technology that detects unusual stops, route deviations, or potential collisions
- Telematics-based safety insights, helping drivers improve road behavior and rewarding those who maintain strong safety records
Many of these systems operate quietly in the background, helping ensure every ride—especially Women-Only Rides—feels safer and more reliable.
As Foo explained, the goal is simple yet impactful: enabling women to focus on their journeys and ambitions rather than worrying about their safety.
By combining technology, community support, and new opportunities for income, Grab Malaysia hopes these initiatives will empower more women to travel and work confidently—marking another step toward safer and more inclusive mobility for all.
