Electric mobility is becoming increasingly accessible to Malaysians as BYD strengthens its nationwide presence through an aggressive expansion of its retail and aftersales network. Working closely with its local distributor, BYD Sime Motors, the electric vehicle brand now boasts more than 40 showrooms across the country, reinforcing its commitment to supporting the growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia.

Alongside its expanding showroom footprint, BYD is also enhancing its aftersales support. The company aims to operate 34 aftersales touchpoints by 2026, with nine additional service centres currently in development. This strategic investment is designed to ensure that owners across Malaysia can enjoy convenient access to professional maintenance, repairs, and spare parts.

The brand’s latest expansion reflects a clear strategy to reach customers beyond major metropolitan areas. In southern Malaysia, BYD has strengthened its presence in Johor with new outlets in Muar and Kluang, providing greater accessibility for customers in the state’s rapidly developing secondary cities.

On the East Coast, a new showroom in Kuala Terengganu complements existing locations in Kuantan and Kota Bharu, allowing the brand to tap into increasing demand for EVs in the region.

Northern Malaysia has also seen significant growth, with new facilities in Sungai Petani and Juru, alongside the launch of the BYD Ipoh 3S Centre in Ipoh. The Ipoh facility stands out as it houses the city’s first dedicated EV charging hub, featuring 240kWh and 180kWh DC fast chargers that offer customers faster and more convenient charging options.

Meanwhile, in the Klang Valley, the BYD Sri Hartamas 3S Centre introduces a unique concept by being located within a shopping mall. By integrating sales, service, and spare parts under one roof, the outlet allows customers to seamlessly incorporate vehicle ownership into their everyday routines.

In addition to its sales and service network, BYD currently operates 12 Body & Paint facilities nationwide, ensuring that customers have access to comprehensive repair services throughout their ownership journey.

BYD’s network expansion is backed by impressive market performance. The company has maintained its position as Malaysia’s leading battery electric vehicle (BEV) brand for three consecutive years, reflecting growing trust among local consumers.

In 2025, the brand delivered 14,407 vehicles in Malaysia, representing a 68 percent increase compared to 2024. Customer growth has also accelerated significantly. BYD reached its first 10,000 Malaysian owners within 20 months, while the next 10,000 customers were added in just 13 months.

The company’s strong momentum also pushed BYD up the rankings in the national automotive market. From being among the top 10 car brands in 2024, the brand rose to become the sixth best-selling automotive brand overall in 2025 and the fourth best-selling non-national brand. At its current pace, BYD is expected to reach 30,000 customers in Malaysia by April 2026.

According to Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, the brand’s achievements highlight the strong partnership between BYD and Sime Motors as well as their shared commitment to elevating EV ownership standards in the country.

He noted that a comprehensive retail and service network plays a crucial role in providing reliable support throughout the ownership lifecycle while also enhancing resale confidence. Each new showroom has also been designed to offer a more refined and customer-focused environment that reflects BYD’s combination of advanced technology and premium experience.

Looking ahead, the company plans to further strengthen its presence with the launch of the BYD Mansion flagship outlet in Macalister, Penang. This upcoming showroom will incorporate local cultural elements into its architectural design, creating a distinctive retail space that blends BYD’s global identity with local community character. The concept will later be replicated across other outlets nationwide.

Beyond physical expansion, BYD is also investing in technical expertise and service infrastructure to support the growing EV customer base. Currently, a team of 80 EV-certified technicians—trained through the BYD Academy—provides specialised servicing across the network.

This expertise is complemented by a centralised parts warehouse that improves parts availability and shortens repair times. Together, these measures aim to provide owners with faster service turnaround, greater transparency, and confidence that their vehicles are maintained by trained specialists.

For Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Southeast Asia at Sime Motors, the rapid growth of EV adoption demonstrates that Malaysians are embracing sustainable mobility faster than ever before.

He noted that despite increasing competition in the market, the partnership with BYD continues to deliver strong results. Moving forward, the focus will remain on strengthening the nationwide network while delivering a more premium ownership experience and advancing intelligent zero-emission mobility solutions.

With its expanding retail footprint, enhanced charging facilities, skilled technicians, and comprehensive aftersales ecosystem, BYD Sime Motors is laying the groundwork for the next stage of electric vehicle adoption in Malaysia—providing potential buyers with the confidence and convenience needed to make the switch to electric mobility.
