OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has officially introduced the JAECOO J5 to the Malaysian market, marking the arrival of a new compact premium crossover aimed at modern drivers seeking practicality, comfort, and a touch of luxury. Positioned as an “Urban Explorer,” the J5 expands the brand’s portfolio while delivering a balance of everyday usability and lifestyle versatility.

The launch ceremony was officiated by Sim Tze Tzin, who highlighted the significance of the new model for Malaysia’s automotive landscape. He noted that the arrival of the J5 reflects growing international confidence in the country’s manufacturing ecosystem. According to him, initiatives under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 are accelerating efforts to transform Malaysia into a hub for high-value automotive production, including electric vehicles and export-driven growth.

At the heart of the J5 is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 108 kW (147 PS) and 210 Nm of torque. Designed with integrated intercooling and an integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head, the powertrain is engineered to optimise thermal efficiency and deliver smooth, responsive performance.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), providing seamless acceleration and refined driving dynamics. The model records a combined fuel consumption of 6.4 litres per 100 km under the Malaysia Driving Cycle, earning the J5 the country’s Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) certification and ensuring it remains economical for both city commuting and longer journeys.

With dimensions measuring 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, along with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, the J5 offers compact proportions while maintaining a confident road presence. Its body structure incorporates high-tensile steel in key areas, delivering improved impact absorption and achieving torsional rigidity rated at 23,500 Nm/deg.

Ride comfort and stability are supported by a MacPherson strut front suspension paired with a multi-link rear suspension system, helping maintain composure across varying road conditions. The crossover rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels wrapped in 235/55 R18 tyres, further enhancing both aesthetics and handling stability.

Inside the cabin, the J5 emphasises comfort, connectivity, and practicality. The five-seat interior is upholstered in premium leatherette with distinctive white seat piping, while ventilated front seats add comfort in warmer climates. Cargo capacity stands at 480 litres and expands to 1,284 litres when the 60/40 split-fold rear seats are folded down.

A unique highlight is the built-in in-car mixer with app control, allowing the cabin to double as a karaoke space when paired with a wireless microphone. Double-glazed front windows also help reduce outside noise, creating a more serene interior environment.

The interior is also designed with pet owners in mind, featuring TÜV-certified upholstery that offers antibacterial and scratch-resistant properties. A large panoramic moonroof measuring 1.45 square metres further enhances the sense of openness inside the vehicle.

Technology features include a 13.2-inch 2K infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, complemented by an 8-inch LCD instrument cluster and an eight-speaker sound system. The centre console houses a 50W wireless charging pad with active ventilation to keep devices cool during charging.

Safety is a major focus in the J5, which comes equipped with a Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance System suite. A total of 19 safety and driver-assist features are included as standard, covering functions such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, lane keeping assistance, and traffic jam assist.

Supporting these systems is JAECOO’s 540-degree HD surround view camera, offering enhanced visibility when parking or manoeuvring in tight spaces.

The JAECOO J5 2WD is priced from RM108,000 (on-the-road without insurance), reinforcing the brand’s focus on offering premium features at an accessible price point.

To celebrate the launch, the company is offering a limited Special Launch Package from 5 to 15 March 2026. Early customers will receive a RM3,000 Duit Raya rebate, along with either complimentary first-year insurance or an additional RM3,000 rebate. Buyers will also receive a Car Accessories Trio Package valued at RM2,000, which includes a subwoofer, a wireless karaoke microphone, and a multifunctional flashlight designed for outdoor use.

All units are backed by a seven-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, whichever comes first.

Coinciding with the official unveiling, the first batch of five JAECOO J5 vehicles has already been delivered to Malaysian customers. The company is working closely with its authorised dealership network to accelerate deliveries as bookings continue to grow.
