As electric vehicles (EVs) steadily become part of everyday life in Malaysia, the experience of car ownership is being reshaped. Beyond the excitement of silent acceleration and reduced emissions, EV drivers are navigating new considerations — from home charging installations to the realities of relying on public charging networks.

Recognising these evolving needs, Liberty General Insurance has unveiled EV 365 Care, a specially designed optional add-on package tailored for electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) owners. The offering reflects a broader understanding that EV ownership extends far beyond the vehicle itself.

Traditional motor insurance focuses primarily on road-related incidents. However, EV drivers face unique scenarios that involve charging infrastructure, home electrical systems, and shared public facilities. EV 365 Care addresses these realities with coverage that follows drivers wherever they charge — at home, at public stations, or on long-distance journeys.

The package is built to provide reassurance in situations that are increasingly common in the EV era, delivering practical protection aligned with modern mobility habits.

Running out of battery power remains one of the most common concerns among EV drivers. Under the Battery-powered Electric Vehicle (BEV) 365 Care plan, policyholders benefit from 24-hour towing assistance in out-of-charge situations.

This includes unlimited towing to the nearest operational charging station or to the insured or authorised driver’s home. By removing the stress of being stranded, the coverage ensures drivers can resume their journey with minimal disruption.

As wall-mounted chargers become a permanent feature in many households, EV 365 Care extends its protection to the home environment.

Key benefits include:

  • Up to RM12,000 to repair or replace a damaged home wall charger.
  • Up to RM50,000 in personal liability coverage for third-party death, bodily injury, or property damage caused by the home wall charger.
  • Up to RM5,000 in compassionate reimbursement for damage to insured property resulting from incidents involving the charger.

These provisions acknowledge that EV charging equipment is now an integral part of domestic life — and that related risks may affect not only the vehicle but also the home and surrounding property.

Public charging facilities are becoming essential to Malaysia’s expanding EV ecosystem. To address potential risks in shared spaces, EV 365 Care includes compassionate cover of up to RM5,000 if the insured vehicle is damaged while charging at a public station, or if the policyholder or authorised driver suffers bodily injury during the charging process.

This feature highlights Liberty’s recognition that EV drivers increasingly depend on public infrastructure — and deserve protection that extends into these communal environments.

For added flexibility, many EV owners carry portable chargers for use in different locations. EV 365 Care provides coverage of up to RM2,000 for repair or replacement of portable chargers damaged due to accidents, fire, lightning, or theft. This ensures that essential charging tools remain protected wherever drivers travel.

EV 365 Care reflects Liberty’s forward-looking approach to insurance — one that adapts alongside technological advancements and lifestyle changes. By combining vehicle protection with coverage for charging-related risks, the add-on delivers a comprehensive safety net for today’s EV owners.

To celebrate the launch, Liberty is running the EV 365 Care Campaign until 30 April 2026. The first 88 customers who purchase selected Liberty motor insurance plans with the EV 365 Care add-on will receive EV charging credits worth RM88, on a first-come, first-served basis. The initiative aims to support daily charging needs while encouraging wider EV adoption across Malaysia.

As the nation’s electric mobility landscape continues to expand, Liberty remains committed to providing practical, future-ready solutions that align with how Malaysians live — not just how they drive.
