Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has officially introduced the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV, marking a major milestone in the brand’s New Energy journey and reinforcing Malaysia’s growing role in the regional automotive landscape. As the first Chinese luxury New Energy plug-in hybrid MPV to be locally assembled in the country, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV reflects GWM’s long-term commitment to Malaysia as both a strategic manufacturing base and an export hub for ASEAN.

The launch event was attended by Yang Berhormat Tuan Sim Tze Tzin, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), alongside senior GWM executives including Mr. James Yang, Vice President of GWM International, and Dr. Hu Xin, Chief Engineer of High Voltage Systems at GWM. Their presence underscored the importance of the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV within GWM’s broader regional and New Energy strategy.

Named after GWM Founder and Chairman Mr. Jack Wey, the WEY brand represents the company’s highest standards in safety, quality, and intelligent New Energy mobility. Positioned as GWM’s flagship luxury New Energy MPV, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is built on the philosophy that premium mobility should be practical, accessible, and suited to everyday life.

According to Cui Anqi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV embodies GWM’s global direction for intelligent hybrid mobility, combining advanced technology, safety-focused engineering, and user-centric design while highlighting Malaysia’s strategic importance within ASEAN.

Powering the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is GWM’s advanced Hi4 intelligent hybrid system, which integrates a turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors to provide electric drive across both axles. The result is a combined output of 442 PS and 642 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 5.7 seconds.

Intelligent Torque Vectoring Control (iTVC) actively manages power distribution between the wheels, delivering confident handling and stability across Malaysia’s diverse road and weather conditions.

Designed to balance efficiency with long-distance usability, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV offers up to 170 kilometres of pure electric driving, ideal for daily commuting. When combined with its hybrid capabilities, the total driving range exceeds 1,000 kilometres, making it equally suitable for extended journeys.

Even with a depleted battery, fuel consumption remains efficient at 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres, thanks to intelligent energy management and seamless transitions between Series and Parallel Hybrid modes.

Developed under the “First Class for All” philosophy, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV prioritises comfort for every occupant. Measuring 5,050 mm in length with a 3,085 mm wheelbase, the MPV features a flat floor and wide central aisle that enhance cabin accessibility.

The front seats are upholstered in Nappa leather and offer ventilation and massage functions, while the second row is equipped with Zero Gravity captain seats featuring one-touch reclining. The third row is designed to comfortably accommodate adults, ensuring the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV meets the needs of families and professionals alike.

Cabin refinement is a key highlight of the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV. At 120 km/h, interior noise levels are measured at just 63.4 decibels, achieved through double-glazed acoustic glass, extensive insulation, and HALOSonic active noise cancellation.

Complementing this serene environment is a premium 21-speaker, 2,440-watt audio system, carefully tuned to the cabin’s acoustics for exceptional sound clarity without compromising conversational comfort.

Beyond comfort, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is designed around real-world usability. Wide-opening doors, a spacious central aisle, and 11 USB charging points ensure convenience for all passengers. A 3.3 kW external power supply supports outdoor and travel activities, while a built-in 12.5-litre hot-and-cold refrigerator can operate for up to 24 hours even when the vehicle is switched off.

Both features can be managed remotely via a mobile app, allowing users to monitor power output and refrigerator temperature with ease.

Safety is engineered into every layer of the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV. The body structure is constructed with more than 83 percent high-strength steel, reinforced with ultra-high-strength materials rated up to 2,000 MPa in critical areas. The roof structure is capable of withstanding up to 12 tonnes of pressure.

Full-length curtain airbags protect all three seating rows, while the hybrid battery system has undergone 89 safety validation tests. The vehicle is also equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, offering more than 20 intelligent safety features to support drivers in everyday scenarios.

The GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is priced at RM269,800, reflecting its positioning as a competitive yet comprehensively equipped luxury MPV.

Customers can choose from three exterior colours—Aurora White, Wisdom Grey, and Nebula Black—paired with either a black or brown interior theme, both complemented by a grey roof for a refined cabin ambience.

Early buyers will receive a complimentary second-row entertainment screen for the first 1,000 customers. Standard ownership benefits include five years of free connected services data, five years of free maintenance, and a complimentary home wallbox charger. Warranty coverage includes a six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 180,000 km hybrid system warranty.

Assembled locally in Malaysia, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV also serves as GWM’s regional export model for ASEAN, with shipments already underway to Thailand and further markets planned.

According to Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia, local assembly strengthens technology transfer, supports the domestic supply chain, and aligns with national objectives for New Energy development.

With its advanced Hi4 hybrid technology, extended driving range, comprehensive safety, refined comfort, and local assembly, the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV establishes a new benchmark in Malaysia’s luxury MPV segment—setting the tone for the future of intelligent New Energy mobility in the region.
