Volvo Car Malaysia has marked a major milestone in its electrification journey with the official introduction of the Volvo ES90, the brand’s first fully electric sedan. Locally assembled in Shah Alam, the ES90 represents more than just a new model—it signals Volvo’s next chapter in premium mobility, blending Scandinavian design, advanced safety, and cutting-edge electric performance tailored for modern lifestyles.

The Volvo ES90 is now available for viewing at authorised Volvo dealerships nationwide, with prices starting from RM339,888. Early adopters are rewarded with a 2% early-bird incentive, limited to the first 100 bookings made by 31 March 2026.

According to Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia and Thailand, the ES90 reflects Volvo’s long-standing relationship with the country. He noted that the new electric sedan is designed for drivers seeking balance—offering the presence of a premium executive sedan while embracing sustainability, performance, and local assembly backed by Volvo’s global standards.

The ES90 is conceived as a calm and refined sanctuary on wheels. Its fastback-inspired silhouette combines sleek elegance with SUV-like spaciousness, creating a generous cabin environment with a distinctive Scandinavian “living room” feel.

Underpinning the ES90 is Volvo’s most advanced 800-volt electric architecture, significantly reducing charging times. With access to a 350 kW DC fast charger, the ES90 can recharge from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 22 minutes. A full charge delivers a WLTP-rated driving range of up to 651 km, enabling worry-free long-distance travel across Malaysia.

From the side, the ES90 features a confident stance with a slightly elevated ride height, offering improved road visibility while maintaining sleek proportions. Its flowing roofline enhances aerodynamics, contributing to a low drag coefficient of just 0.25 and improved efficiency.

Signature Thor’s Hammer LED headlights define the front, while the rear is highlighted by distinctive C-shaped LED taillights and illuminated rear window elements that create a unique welcome and farewell lighting sequence. Buyers can choose from Vapour Grey, Crystal White, Denim Blue, or Onyx Black.

Practicality is further enhanced by a wide-opening tailgate and a boot offering 424 litres of space, expandable to 904 litres with the 40/20/40 split rear seats folded. A 27-litre front storage compartment adds convenient space for charging cables.

Inside, the ES90 emphasises premium comfort, sustainable materials, and thoughtful functionality. Its long 3.1-metre wheelbase ensures excellent rear legroom, making it equally comfortable for families and chauffeured journeys.

Six ambient lighting themes enhance cabin ambience, while ventilated Charcoal Nordico upholstery delivers a refined yet environmentally conscious touch. A panoramic roof with electrochromic glass provides up to 99.9 per cent UV protection, allowing occupants to adjust transparency at the touch of a button.

Comfort is further elevated by a four-zone climate control system equipped with an advanced air purifier that blocks up to 95 per cent of PM2.5 particulates and removes 99.9 per cent of common allergens.

The ES90 is also one of the quietest Volvos ever produced, allowing occupants to fully enjoy the optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system. With 25 speakers producing 1,610 watts of output, Dolby Atmos® support, and an exclusive Abbey Road Studios mode, the audio experience is immersive and studio-inspired.

The ES90 is the first Volvo to feature the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin computing platform, capable of processing vast amounts of data in real time. Acting as the vehicle’s core computer, it integrates inputs from cameras and radars to create a comprehensive 360-degree safety environment.

Built on Volvo’s Superset technology stack, the ES90 is designed to continuously improve through over-the-air updates, enhancing efficiency, safety, and infotainment features over time.

Its next-generation infotainment system features Google built-in, including Google Maps, Google Assistant, and access to apps via Google Play. Powered by the Snapdragon® Cockpit Platform and supported by 5G connectivity, the system delivers smooth performance across the 9-inch driver display, head-up display, and the large 14.5-inch centre touchscreen. A 360-degree camera with 3D surround view further aids manoeuvring in tight spaces.

Beyond its electric powertrain, the ES90 demonstrates Volvo’s commitment to sustainability through material choices. The sedan incorporates 29 per cent recycled aluminium, 18 per cent recycled steel, and 16 per cent recycled or bio-based polymers. Interior wood trim is sourced from FSC-certified suppliers, helping to reduce the vehicle’s overall carbon footprint.

Safety remains central to the ES90’s identity. Engineered to meet Volvo Cars’ stringent internal safety standards, the ES90 benefits from over 55 years of real-world safety research. Its structure features a strong safety cage, advanced restraint systems, and optimised crumple zones.

Active safety systems are supported by five radars, seven cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors, enabling advanced driver assistance that goes beyond human vision. A driver understanding system monitors attention levels and can intervene when necessary, while door-opening alerts help protect cyclists and pedestrians when the car is parked.

The Volvo ES90 is now open for booking in Malaysia. Customers can configure their vehicle online or visit their nearest authorised Volvo retailer to place an order, marking the beginning of a new electric era for Volvo in the local market.
