BYD Malaysia is expanding its nationwide electric vehicle outreach with the southern edition of BYD Tech Discovery, an immersive, technology-focused showcase set to take place in Johor Bahru from 22 to 25 January 2026. Organised in collaboration with DENZA—the premium intelligent EV marque under BYD—and BYD Sime Motors, the brand’s official distributor in Malaysia, the event will be held at Padang (A) Akasia, Angsana Johor Bahru Mall.
Following a strong debut in Kuala Lumpur in 2025, the Johor Bahru leg marks the second stop of BYD’s nationwide tour aimed at bringing electric mobility closer to Malaysians. The interactive exhibition is designed to offer hands-on exposure to BYD’s latest EV technologies while fostering greater public understanding of sustainable and intelligent transportation.
As Malaysia’s leading battery electric vehicle (BEV) brand, BYD has built a significant presence across the country, with more than 40 sales and service outlets nationwide. To date, over 27,000 BYD vehicles and 1,200 DENZA models are on Malaysian roads, reflecting growing confidence in the brand’s technology and ecosystem. BYD Tech Discovery serves as a strategic platform to further accelerate EV adoption by engaging communities beyond major urban centres.
The timing of the Johor Bahru showcase aligns closely with the Johor state government’s ambition to expand its EV fleet to 15,840 units by 2030, supported by continued development of charging infrastructure. Against this backdrop, BYD Tech Discovery offers an ideal opportunity for visitors of all ages to explore how EV technology can fit into everyday life.
According to Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, bringing the showcase to the southern region is a crucial step in broadening EV education. He noted that in areas where EV exposure is still limited, firsthand experience plays a vital role in building understanding and confidence. By allowing consumers to interact directly with BYD’s technologies, the brand hopes to encourage wider adoption and inspire a mindset focused on sustainable mobility.
Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Southeast Asia at Sime Motors, highlighted the importance of a strong ownership ecosystem alongside product innovation. He reaffirmed Sime Motors’ commitment to ensuring customers benefit from reliable after-sales support, backed by a comprehensive nationwide network, a dedicated BYD Academy for EV training, 12 authorised Body & Paint centres, and a centralised parts warehouse with a 94% fill rate. Together, these elements provide assurance throughout the ownership journey.
BYD Tech Discovery Johor Bahru features a wide range of interactive attractions designed to showcase performance, safety, and innovation. Visitors can witness live demonstrations such as camel bridge and cross-axle tests that highlight BYD’s advanced DMO technology. Test drives of the latest BYD and DENZA models are also available, featuring real-world scenarios including reverse parking, speed bump navigation, and advanced manoeuvres such as 360-degree rotation and crabwalk demonstrations (test rides only).
The exhibition also includes technology deep-dive zones, where technical specialists explain key innovations such as the Blade Battery, e-Platform 3.0, and BYD’s intelligent vehicle systems. For families, a lifestyle zone offers complimentary refreshments, a children’s play area, and exclusive BYD merchandise. Visitors interested in ownership can also enjoy special event promotions and participate in a lucky draw with prizes worth up to RM38,888.
