Malaysia’s used car industry has taken a significant technological leap with the official launch of WISEDRIVE, the country’s first all-in-one AI-powered system designed specifically for the used vehicle ecosystem. The platform was unveiled at Unipac Engineering’s headquarters in Shah Alam, marking a major milestone in how vehicle inspections, pricing and reporting are conducted.

Developed to bring greater transparency and confidence to used car transactions, WISEDRIVE combines artificial intelligence-driven inspections, sound recognition, visual analysis and diagnostic data into a single integrated system. This allows buyers, sellers and industry stakeholders to gain a clearer, more accurate understanding of a vehicle’s true condition, supporting better decision-making when buying or selling pre-owned cars.

The timing of the launch is particularly relevant, as Malaysia’s used car market is estimated to record around 800,000 units in annual sales. This growth has been fuelled by strong new vehicle demand in recent years, increasing the flow of cars into the secondary market. WISEDRIVE aims to address the growing need for accurate, efficient and holistic vehicle assessments, especially in an online environment where trust is critical.

For sellers — including individual owners and used car dealers — the platform provides a reliable way to present the actual condition of their vehicles. This supports fairer pricing, smoother financing approvals and faster stock turnover, while reinforcing credibility in digital marketplaces.

According to Hafiz Zubir, Country Manager for WISEDRIVE Malaysia, the initiative is built on a shared vision of transforming the automotive ecosystem through data and technology. He noted that the company’s focus is on localising and expanding WISEDRIVE in Malaysia, leveraging strong product capabilities and regional expertise to deliver long-term value to the market.

At the core of WISEDRIVE is its advanced AI engine, which compares captured visual and audio data against thousands of known vehicle issues — including faults that are difficult to detect through traditional inspections. The system utilises cutting-edge machine learning, computer vision and acoustic processing, analysing more than 150,000 visual datasets and 31 million audio samples across 8,245 car models and variants. These include local favourites such as Proton and Perodua, covering models launched since 1985 and 1994 respectively.

This approach has redefined vehicle inspections, delivering engine analysis claimed to be 20 times more accurate than manual checks. Trained on over 1.3 million engine sound samples and fault patterns, the AI significantly reduces reliance on subjective judgement, minimising up to 95% of human error. Inspection times are also shortened by 75%, as inspectors simply upload photos and videos through the app during the assessment process.

From a customer perspective, WISEDRIVE offers a streamlined end-to-end experience. The entire journey includes a two-minute booking process, a 90-minute inspection session and the immediate availability of a comprehensive vehicle report upon completion.

Philipp Moeller, CEO of WISEDRIVE Southeast Asia, highlighted that Malaysia has been selected as the first expansion market in the region, supported by full operational teams and local partners. He cited the country’s strong automotive manufacturing base and high adoption of AI-driven technologies as key factors behind the decision.

Beyond individual transactions, WISEDRIVE is designed to deliver broader commercial value across the industry. By standardising inspection, diagnostic and risk data, the platform enables banks, insurers and dealers to price vehicles more accurately while reducing operational risks. Workshops also benefit from a consistent flow of verified inspection and repair jobs, positioning WISEDRIVE as a shared growth platform for multiple stakeholders.

Looking ahead, while Malaysia has seen the most advanced deployment to date, pilot operations are expected to commence in Thailand and Indonesia in the first quarter of 2026, signalling the company’s wider Southeast Asian ambitions.
