Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET) has officially opened bookings for the all-new Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV. This landmark model represents PROTON’s first-ever Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and is also positioned as Malaysia’s first “Dual-Powered EV”, combining electric-first driving with the reassurance of petrol-powered range.

The announcement follows an ambitious 25-hour livestream drive that saw the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV cover more than 1,100km from Penang to Johor Bahru via the North–South Expressway, before returning to the PROTON Centre of Excellence (COE). Designed to simulate real Malaysian driving conditions, the journey highlighted the vehicle’s long-distance capability, efficiency and everyday practicality.

Conducted over two consecutive days, the livestream drive featured a rotating lineup of hosts, product experts and lifestyle, technology and motoring influencers. Viewers were treated to live driving impressions, real-time Q&A sessions and on-road insights throughout the journey.

Notably, the same Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV that completed the entire route without refuelling or recharging drove straight onto the stage at the COE for the Open for Booking announcement. This dramatic finish underlined the model’s ability to support extended travel while remaining suitable for daily use.

During the event, PRO-NET also revealed tentative pricing for its first PHEV. The Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV is expected to be priced between RM110,000 and RM130,000, positioning it as an accessible electrified option for Malaysians seeking the benefits of electric driving without range anxiety.

Mr Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET, said the new model marks a significant expansion for the Proton e.MAS brand. He explained that the e.MAS 7 PHEV is designed for drivers who want to enjoy electric mobility in their daily routines while retaining the freedom to travel long distances with confidence. By unveiling the vehicle after a real-world endurance drive, PRO-NET aims to demonstrate that the model is engineered specifically for Malaysian driving needs.

At the heart of the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV is an advanced plug-in hybrid system that seamlessly blends electric and hybrid operation. Intelligent energy management automatically switches between EV and hybrid modes, supported by an 11-in-1 Dedicated Hybrid Transmission system and a durable LFP (Lithium Ferro Phosphate) battery.

For most daily journeys, the vehicle operates in pure EV mode or series-hybrid mode, where the petrol engine functions solely as a generator, supplying power to the electric motors rather than driving the wheels directly. When higher efficiency is required—such as during highway cruising or long uphill climbs—the system automatically engages a clutch, allowing the engine to drive the wheels directly or work together with the electric motor.

This flexible setup ensures optimal efficiency and performance in varying conditions, offering electric-first convenience for city driving while delivering petrol-powered support when it matters most. Complementing the drivetrain are a refined interior, advanced connectivity features, comprehensive ADAS safety systems and quiet, emissions-free electric driving, all designed to enhance comfort and confidence for urban commutes, weekend getaways and interstate travel.
