Proton has kicked off 2026 with renewed momentum in its export ambitions, unveiling a new 100kW variant of the Proton e.MAS 7 at the Singapore Motorshow. The introduction comes less than six months after the brand’s return to the Singapore market and marks a significant expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio overseas.
Fresh from its success as Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle in 2025, the e.MAS 7 has become the cornerstone of Proton’s export-led EV strategy. The Singapore launch was attended by Will Wan Wei, Vice President of Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB), alongside Vincent Tan, Chief Executive Officer of VINCAR Group, highlighting the strong partnership driving Proton’s growth in the republic.
Since re-entering Singapore in 2025, Proton has steadily built traction, supported by encouraging demand for the higher-powered e.MAS 7 160kW variant, which now has only limited units remaining. Building on this momentum, the newly introduced 100kW version has been developed specifically for overseas markets, allowing the model to be positioned within Singapore’s more accessible COE Category A.
Despite the lower power output, the new variant retains the e.MAS 7’s core strengths in performance, safety, and everyday usability. This approach reflects PROTON’s carefully phased market development strategy, designed to broaden appeal while supporting greater EV adoption in cost-sensitive markets.
The move also aligns with Proton’s long-term growth targets, which include reaching 330,000 annual sales by 2030, with export markets contributing 30 per cent of total volume.
The Proton e.MAS 7 continues to stand out with its balanced blend of design, intelligent technology, and safety credentials. The model has achieved an impressive 92.57 points in ASEAN NCAP testing—the highest score in its segment—providing a strong foundation for the e.MAS brand and setting the stage for future models such as the upcoming e.MAS 5.
Backed by an extensive 3S and 4S service network, Proton aims to instil confidence among customers transitioning to electric mobility. The strong domestic reception of the e.MAS brand has reinforced confidence in using the e.MAS 7 as a spearhead for overseas expansion. In 2025 alone, Proton exported 6,000 vehicles, with export sales continuing to grow rapidly. While the e.MAS 7 was the third most exported model, its presence proved instrumental in re-establishing the brand in EV-friendly markets like Singapore, where electric vehicles enjoy a clear cost advantage over internal combustion alternatives.
Commenting on the launch, Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton International Corporation, noted that the new 100kW variant demonstrates Proton’s flexibility in meeting diverse regulatory and market requirements. He added that the variant could be introduced to other markets if demand arises, as the company looks to strengthen its footprint in existing territories, explore new export destinations, and roll out both ICE and EV models in 2026.
The Proton e.MAS 7 100kW variant is on display at the Singapore Motorshow from 8 to 11 January, with early customers enjoying a special introductory rebate of SGD6,000 for bookings made during the event.
