Malaysia’s premier automotive showcase is shifting into higher gear as the Penang Autoshow 2026 and Johor Autoshow 2026 were officially announced, marking the largest regional expansion in the history of the Malaysia Autoshow series. The move aims to deliver next-generation automotive technologies, electric mobility solutions, and immersive automotive experiences to more Malaysians across the country.

Scheduled for May 2026 in Penang and August 2026 in Johor, the two new regional editions will extend the Autoshow’s reach beyond the Klang Valley, providing northern and southern communities direct access to cutting-edge vehicles, advanced technologies, and sustainable mobility innovations. Much like the flagship event held at MAEPS, these regional autoshow editions promise the same level of scale, engagement, and industry presence — now brought closer to local audiences.

Penang’s selection reflects its established reputation as a powerhouse for advanced manufacturing, electronics, and technology-driven industries. The state’s accelerating shift toward electrification and sustainable mobility further positions it as an ideal host for the northern edition. Meanwhile, Johor’s strategic role as Malaysia’s southern industrial and logistics gateway opens doors for automotive expansion, cross-border mobility collaboration, and industry growth aligned with ASEAN markets.

“In 2026, the Malaysia Autoshow will take a step back to give way to the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS 2026). However, our mission remains unchanged. The drive to bring the latest automotive innovations closer to Malaysians will not stop at one venue or one city,” said En. Azrul Reza Aziz, Chief Executive Officer of MARii.
He added that the Penang Autoshow and Johor Autoshow will help ensure that every region has access to state-of-the-art vehicle technologies, electric mobility advancements, and sustainable innovation — all in line with the National Automotive Policy 2020.

The announcement was made during the Penang & Johor Autoshow Soft Launch at the Global Automotive & Technology Expo (GATE) 2025 held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Both regional autoshows are expected to feature leading automotive brands showcasing their latest models, with a strong focus on electric and hybrid vehicles, enhanced safety systems, and breakthrough design concepts. Beyond vehicle displays, visitors can look forward to a variety of experiential activities, including test drive routes, car gatherings, auto fashion showcases, and lifestyle-themed attractions that celebrate Malaysia’s growing automotive culture. Additional programme highlights will be revealed as the event dates draw nearer.

The Malaysia Autoshow 2025 recently set a new benchmark in the region, becoming the largest edition in ASEAN history with nearly 300,000 visitors and RM1.72 billion in potential sales generated. With over 200 exhibitors and more than 500 vehicle models on display — many of them electric and hybrid — the event clearly demonstrated Malaysia’s readiness to lead the mobility transformation.
