Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) and Giti Tire Malaysia (GTM) recently welcomed renowned world-record driver Rainer Zietlow to Malaysia, marking another milestone in his extraordinary attempt to set a new Guinness World Records™ title for the most countries visited in an electric vehicle (EV).
Driving the all-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz, Zietlow has so far travelled through 46 countries in 84 days, covering an impressive 46,400 kilometres. His journey is a global showcase of electric mobility’s potential — a testament to innovation, endurance, and sustainability.
Zietlow is no stranger to world records. In 2012, he made headlines with his record-setting drive in a Volkswagen Touareg, a vehicle celebrated for its power and versatility. Today, his latest adventure in the ID. Buzz underscores just how far mobility has evolved — from robust combustion engines to zero-emission electric power.
During his stop in Malaysia — his second visit to the country — guests had the unique opportunity to meet Zietlow and experience the Volkswagen ID. Buzz up close at the Volkswagen Glenmarie (F.A. Wagen) Showroom. The event celebrated a shared passion for adventure, innovation, and sustainable mobility.
“Volkswagen has always been about innovation and emotional connection,” said Renate Noessler, Managing Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia. “The ID. Buzz reimagines the spirit of the iconic VW Bus for a new generation — combining engineering excellence with the joy of exploration. Rainer’s journey perfectly embodies that same spirit of adventure, performance, and reliability that define our brand.”
Equally vital to this world-record journey are the GitiSynergy H2 tires, specially chosen as the original equipment fitment for the ID. Buzz. Designed to handle the unique challenges of electric vehicles — including heavier battery loads, instant torque, and range efficiency — these tires combine advanced tread compounds, low rolling resistance, and reinforced construction. They also deliver excellent wet performance, ensuring stability and safety across varying climates and terrains.
Shiroo Chia, Deputy General Manager of International Marketing at Giti Tire Group, emphasized the importance of this partnership:
“Rainer’s ultra-long-distance drive is a powerful real-world validation of GitiSynergy H2’s technology and reliability. We’re proud that Volkswagen and Rainer trust Giti to help power this 80,000-kilometre, 70-country world tour.”
For Zietlow, the collaboration between Volkswagen and Giti Tire has been instrumental in his progress. “The ID. Buzz and Giti tires have exceeded my expectations,” he shared. “The driving experience is excellent, and I’m confident in completing this zero-emissions world record attempt. I’m thrilled to be back in Malaysia — it’s always a pleasure, and I’m sure it won’t be my last visit.”
As the journey continues, Zietlow’s expedition stands as a powerful symbol of how far electric mobility has come. With Volkswagen’s pioneering technology and Giti Tire’s tire engineering excellence, this record-breaking mission showcases not just endurance and innovation — but also the future of sustainable travel without limits.
