After turning heads at this year’s Malaysia Autoshow in its pre-production, left-hand-drive form, the smart #5 is inching closer to its official Malaysian launch. Recently previewed in right-hand-drive configuration, the electric SUV is set to be introduced locally by the end of the year, with two main variants leading the way: the Premium and the performance-focused Brabus.
Unlike the curvier lines of its predecessors, the smart #5 adopts a bolder, boxier silhouette while retaining the brand’s signature rounded edges. At the front, full LED headlights are paired with a striking light bar, complemented by four additional LED lamps that add a sporty yet rugged flair. The rear design mirrors this setup with LED taillights and a continuous light bar, giving the SUV a muscular stance.
The Premium variant leans towards sophistication, with elegant champagne paintwork and flat-faced 20-inch wheels, aimed at customers who prefer a classy aesthetic. In contrast, the Brabus edition is unmistakably sporty, featuring red exterior accents, Brabus badging, and aggressive 21-inch rims. It’s designed to make a statement both in style and performance.
Inside, the smart #5 delivers a futuristic cabin inspired by Mercedes-Benz’s Hyperscreen layout. The driver gets a 10.3-inch instrument display, while two 13-inch infotainment screens dominate the dashboard—supporting wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and even passenger access to YouTube on the go. Sound is delivered through a powerful 20-speaker, 2000W Sennheiser system.
The Premium trim enhances luxury with wood paneling and leather upholstery (black leather will be offered in Malaysia), while the Brabus swaps elegance for sportiness with carbon fiber trim, Alcantara details, red stitching, and red seatbelts.
Both variants share a 100kWh battery paired with an advanced 800V charging architecture, enabling 10–80% recharges in just 15 minutes and offering up to 590 km of WLTP range. The Premium model comes with a single-motor setup, while the Brabus is equipped with dual motors producing 475 kW and 710 Nm of torque. This allows the performance model to sprint from 0–100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
The smart #5 is also engineered for versatility, offering five driving modes—including off-road mode—and the ability to wade through water up to 500mm deep thanks to its 197mm ground clearance.
Although smart Malaysia has yet to confirm exact launch dates or pricing, the #5 is expected to reach showrooms by the end of the year. With its combination of rugged design, cutting-edge technology, and performance credentials, it’s positioned to appeal to a broad range of Malaysian EV buyers.
For those eager to get a closer look, smart showrooms across the country are ready to share more details ahead of the official launch.
