Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) has officially joined forces with Selangor FC, marking the beginning of a new era in Malaysian football with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and the handover of the Hyundai STARIA as the team’s official vehicle. The partnership, sealed at Menara AFFIN @ TRX, reflects Hyundai’s commitment to supporting local sports and communities by connecting its global vision with Malaysia’s football heritage.
The ceremony was officiated by Eric Lee, President of Hyundai Motor Malaysia, and Dr. Johan Kamal Hamidon, Chief Executive Officer of Selangor FC. The signing was witnessed by His Highness Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, Raja Muda Selangor and Chairman of Selangor FC, along with Ms. Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Malaysia.
As Selangor FC’s Official Mobility Partner, Hyundai has provided the STARIA – a premium MPV designed with comfort, space, and advanced features – to support the team’s travel needs throughout the season. From training grounds to stadiums across Malaysia, the STARIA ensures that the Red Giants move with style, safety, and efficiency.
Hyundai’s involvement has already made its presence felt during Selangor FC’s opening match of the season against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on 8 August, with branding visible on team apparel. Over the coming months, fans can expect to see Hyundai’s presence expand across training kits and matchday experiences, underscoring a deeper connection between brand, club, and community.
“Our involvement in football has always been about more than performance—it’s about people, stories, and progress. Football mirrors the resilience, teamwork, and unity that also drive our brand,” said Ms. Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Malaysia. “Through this partnership with Selangor FC, we aim to create meaningful experiences that connect fans, players, and communities.”
Widely known as the Red Giants, Selangor FC boasts one of the richest legacies in Malaysian football, with 62 major trophies to their name, including 33 Malaysia Cup titles. Today, the club’s ambition is to reclaim its position at the top of local football while continuing to strengthen its bond with fans across generations.
“We are delighted to welcome Hyundai as our Official Mobility Partner,” said Dr. Johan Kamal Hamidon, CEO of Selangor FC. “This partnership goes beyond visibility. It’s about collaborating with a global mobility leader that shares our values of performance, innovation, and passion. Hyundai’s support will be instrumental as we compete at both domestic and regional levels.”
Hyundai’s involvement in sports sponsorship spans decades and continents. From being a FIFA World Cup sponsor since 1999 to promoting sustainability by deploying eco-friendly fleets during the 2022 World Cup, and supporting gender equality in football through initiatives like the Equal Play Effect during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Hyundai has consistently proven its dedication to the game beyond the pitch.
With its vision of “Progress for Humanity,” Hyundai continues to leverage sports as a platform for connection, inclusivity, and inspiration. The collaboration with Selangor FC is the latest chapter in this global story, bringing Hyundai’s expertise and values closer to Malaysian fans.
As the football season unfolds, Selangor FC supporters can look forward to new initiatives and experiences born out of this partnership—where mobility meets passion, and progress is driven both on the road and on the field.
