The Petronas-MSF Merdeka Race 2025 is set to push the limits of endurance and excitement this Merdeka Day, introducing its most demanding format yet. Powered by Petronas Primax, the event will take place on Sunday, 31 August, at the 5.534km Petronas-Sepang International Circuit, bringing together over 400 cars and motorcycles for an adrenaline-fueled celebration of Malaysia’s independence.
Now in its 8th edition, the MSF Merdeka Race has grown into one of the country’s most anticipated motorsport spectacles. This year’s headline event, the MSF SuperTurismo Merdeka 111 Endurance Race, marks a major milestone with a grueling 111 laps—a leap from 88 laps in its early years and 99 laps in 2024. The race is projected to last approximately five hours, testing both man and machine to the limit.
The endurance race offers a substantial prize pool, including RM5,000 for the overall champion, RM3,000 for the runner-up, and RM2,000 for third place. Additional prizes are awarded within each of the six racing classes, with category winners earning RM3,500, runner-ups RM1,500, and second runner-ups RM1,000.
Adding to the thrill, the MotoMSF Superbikes endurance race is getting a significant upgrade, moving from a 12-lap sprint to a 33-lap endurance showdown. Teams will compete with two riders and two bikes, incorporating pit stops and rider changes for a true endurance format. Running approximately 90 minutes, this race offers an RM8,000 prize for the winner, with subsequent positions earning between RM5,000 and RM1,500.
“It has always been a tradition to elevate the challenge every year,” said Adian Yein Khalid, Principal of MSF. “While we maintain our commitment to affordable and sustainable racing, we aim to raise the bar in a structured way to nurture talent, skill, and competitiveness.”
This year’s lineup will also feature the American V-Twin Cup by Prodigy Racing, showcasing heavyweight Harley-Davidsons and Indian motorcycles in a 7-lap battle. Despite being better known for highway cruising, these 2000cc beasts weighing up to 250kg promise a thrilling twist on the track.
Additional races include a 40-minute + 1-lap contest across four classes—SuperSeries, Tuner Production, SkillDRVN one-make, and Campro Cup—alongside a 75-minute + 1-lap challenge for the Sage and MyVi Cups.
The action kicks off at 11:00am with the American V-Twin Cup, followed by the MotoMSF Superbikes endurance race at noon, and culminates with the MSF SuperTurismo Merdeka 111 Endurance Race at 5:00pm. Gates open from 10:00am to 11:00pm, and tickets are priced at RM35, which includes paddock and pit access. Children under 12 enjoy free admission. Fans can also indulge in food trucks, merchandise, and a festive atmosphere perfect for celebrating Merdeka.
With record-breaking race formats, a stacked program, and strong support from partners such as EXN Lube, Rennplatz, Vision Motorsports, Momentum Autosport, Energizer, GITI Tires, and Pirelli, the Petronas-MSF Merdeka Race 2025 promises an unforgettable experience for motorsport enthusiasts nationwide.
