Proton has kicked off the second half of 2025 on a high note, riding a wave of renewed consumer demand after a quieter June. The national automaker closed July with 13,518 units sold, marking a robust 22.1% jump from the previous month and lifting year-to-date (YTD) sales to 85,674 units. This performance secures Proton the second spot in Malaysia’s overall sales rankings, with a 19.2% market share for July and a YTD figure of 19.3%—an improvement from last year’s 18.7%.
With the Total Industry Volume (TIV) for July estimated at 70,545 units—28.7% higher than June and the second-highest monthly figure of the year—Proton capitalised on the momentum with strong performances across its lineup.
Leading the charge was the all-new Proton X50, launched on 24 July. The B-segment SUV delivered 999 units in its first week alone, pushing total July sales to 2,068 units—the model’s third time surpassing the 2,000 mark in 2025. Featuring a bold new design, upgraded interior, advanced intelligent features, and a youth-focused marketing campaign, the X50 has generated significant buzz both online and in showrooms. With production expected to reach 5,000 units by month’s end and bookings nearing five figures, August sales are forecasted to climb even higher.
Proton’s D-segment SUV, the X90, added 229 units in July, while the C-segment S70 sedan recorded 1,404 units, bringing its YTD total to 10,750 units—well ahead of initial expectations.
The Proton Saga enjoyed its best month of 2025, selling 6,638 units in July—boosted in part by the buzz surrounding its 40th anniversary and the launch of the white Hot Wheels collectible edition. YTD sales now stand at 38,345 units, underscoring the enduring appeal of Proton’s A-segment sedan.
Meanwhile, the X70 posted the brand’s highest growth rate this year, with YTD sales up 51.7% to 4,971 units. The Persona also had its strongest month of 2025, selling 1,499 units, while the Iriz contributed 329 units.
Proton’s export momentum continues to strengthen following the creation of Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB). Export sales have grown 44.1% compared to 2024, reaching 2,258 units YTD, with the X50 overtaking the Saga as the top export model.
The Proton e.MAS 7 remains Malaysia’s best-selling EV, adding 706 units in July (including exports) for a YTD total of 4,959 units. Overseas shipments have reached 270 units, further cementing its position as a global contender. With the upcoming e.MAS 5 set to join the lineup, Proton is gearing up for even stronger EV and export growth in the months ahead.
Deputy CEO of Proton Edar, Zhang Qiang, summed up the company’s momentum: “The introduction of the all-new Proton X50 has given the entire range a visibility boost. With more new model launches and our technology showcase at GATE 2025, we aim to keep this growth trajectory going. Our EV and export strategies are proving effective, and we expect them to contribute even more in the near future.”
With a revitalised product lineup, surging exports, and a growing EV portfolio, Proton’s performance in July sets a strong foundation for an ambitious second half of the year.
