In a significant leap toward intelligent mobility and sustainable transportation, the Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) and PETRONAS Global Technical Solutions Sdn Bhd (PGTSSB) have entered a strategic collaboration to revolutionize the automotive maintenance landscape. The two organizations are joining forces to introduce ADaPTiV—an innovative predictive maintenance solution adapted from PETRONAS’s proven Advanced Diagnostic and Prognostic Technology (ADaPT), originally developed for the energy sector.

The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and witnessed by Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry YB Liew Chin Tong, marks a milestone in Malaysia’s transition toward smarter, safer, and more efficient mobility solutions.

ADaPTiV harnesses the power of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data Analytics to offer real-time, intelligent insights into vehicle health. The system predicts potential component failures before they occur, allowing for proactive maintenance and reducing the risk of unexpected breakdowns. By collecting live data from vehicle components, ADaPTiV enables condition-based interventions that enhance operational efficiency, extend the lifespan of automotive parts, and reduce overall maintenance costs.

Azrul Reza Aziz, CEO of MARii, described the partnership as a “landmark moment” for both MARii and the broader automotive industry. “ADaPTiV represents a powerful convergence of MARii’s automotive expertise and PETRONAS’ world-class predictive analytics, enabling us to build a more intelligent and reliable vehicle ecosystem,” he said. Aziz emphasized that the initiative supports Malaysia’s broader strategic objectives under the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and the National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2020, both of which aim to foster innovation in next-generation vehicles and smart mobility.

Echoing the enthusiasm, PETRONAS’s Senior General Manager Mazri Mohd Ali highlighted the broader implications of the initiative. “This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to technical and engineering excellence, as we adapt and extend our solutions to new industries. ADaPTiV will deliver significant value by enhancing vehicle reliability, safety, and operational efficiency, driving cost savings and contributing to a more sustainable transportation landscape in Malaysia.”

The first functional prototype of ADaPTiV was unveiled at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, showcased at the MARii Pavilion. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with technical experts and experience firsthand how the system is set to transform vehicle maintenance.

Beyond its immediate impact on the automotive industry, ADaPTiV holds the potential to influence other sectors by introducing smart predictive maintenance technologies that elevate operational reliability and sustainability.

As Malaysia positions itself at the forefront of smart mobility solutions, the MARii-PETRONAS partnership and the ADaPTiV initiative stand as shining examples of how cross-industry innovation can drive meaningful progress in both technology and national development goals.
