UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) continued its steady start to 2026 after recording sales of 4,856 vehicles in February, bringing its year-to-date total to 9,556 units. The encouraging performance reflects consistent demand for Toyota models in Malaysia, supported by an expanded product range and the company’s extensive nationwide dealership and aftersales network.
The strong early-year results are closely tied to UMWT’s strategy of steadily broadening its portfolio rather than relying on a single model launch cycle. Entering 2026, the company introduced several refreshed and electrified models across key vehicle segments, giving customers access to modern mobility options backed by Toyota’s well-established ownership ecosystem.
A key driver behind the momentum is the expansion of UMWT’s hybrid electric vehicle offerings. In the popular B-segment sedan category, the introduction of the Toyota Vios Hybrid and Toyota Vios HEV GR Sport represents an important step in bringing electrified technology to one of the most accessible segments in the market. These models combine the familiar practicality of the Vios with improved fuel efficiency through hybrid powertrains.
Hybrid technology also extends into the SUV segment with the updated Toyota Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport. The refreshed model adds a sportier interpretation of hybrid mobility while maintaining the everyday usability that has made the Corolla Cross a popular choice among families.
At the higher end of the line-up, electrification continues to play a prominent role. The Toyota Vellfire HEV introduces hybrid refinement to the luxury MPV segment, blending premium comfort with improved efficiency. Meanwhile, the Toyota Harrier HEV strengthens Toyota’s presence in the D-segment SUV category, offering a sophisticated hybrid driving experience for customers seeking a more upscale vehicle.
Together, these four hybrid models illustrate how UMWT is implementing Toyota’s Toyota Multi-Pathway Strategy. Instead of focusing electrification in a single segment, the approach gradually integrates hybrid technology across sedans, SUVs, and MPVs, providing customers with a wider range of electrified options.
According to Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor, the company’s direction is guided by a balanced and long-term approach. He noted that in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape, sustainable growth requires clarity in strategy. By expanding hybrid choices while strengthening its nationwide dealer network, UMWT aims to offer practical electrified mobility supported by reliable ownership services.
February also saw the opening of a new facility aimed at strengthening Toyota’s infrastructure in Malaysia. The Prima Pearl 4S Centre in Bayan Lepas, Penang, officially began operations on 9 February 2026. The integrated facility brings together sales, service, and body and paint operations under one roof, improving convenience and service capacity for customers in the northern region.
Equipped with four display vehicles, two delivery bays, ten general service bays, and ten body and paint bays, the new centre supports Toyota’s broader strategy of ensuring accessibility and long-term service readiness throughout the country.
Beyond product offerings and infrastructure, UMWT continues to focus on enhancing the ownership experience. The Toyota Service Savers Programme allows customers to plan routine maintenance from as low as RM31 per month, while Toyota Extend provides extended warranty coverage for selected models across the country. These initiatives are designed to promote cost transparency and provide long-term peace of mind for Toyota owners.
In conjunction with the March promotional period, UMWT is also offering attractive financing packages for selected Toyota models. Customers can enjoy deals worth up to RM7,500, with monthly instalments starting from RM658, giving prospective buyers flexible options as they plan their purchases ahead of the festive season.
Datuk Ravindran added that as Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaches, many Malaysians will be preparing for journeys that symbolise new beginnings. Reliable vehicles and strong aftersales support play an important role in ensuring drivers can travel with confidence during such meaningful occasions.
Guided by its “Move Your World” vision, UMW Toyota Motor remains committed to making mobility more accessible, safe, and enjoyable for Malaysians—helping drivers stay connected, travel with confidence, and make the most of every journey.
