Malaysian automaker Proton has officially introduced the updated 2026 Proton X90, bringing a refined driving experience to its flagship seven-seater SUV. The latest iteration builds on the success of the model since its debut in 2023, when it quickly gained popularity among Malaysian families seeking a spacious and practical SUV.
Since its introduction, more than 10,000 units of the X90 have been delivered nationwide, demonstrating strong market acceptance. With the 2026 update, Proton aims to further strengthen the model’s appeal by introducing a new powertrain while retaining the comfort, versatility, and practicality that have made it a preferred choice in the segment.
The 2026 X90 continues to be developed around Proton’s T.R.U.E pillars—Turbocharged Confidence, Room for All, Ultimate Comfort, and Everyday Assurance—each representing a key aspect of the SUV’s design and functionality.
Powering the new X90 is the i-GT 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, paired with a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission. The powertrain produces 181 PS and 290 Nm of torque, delivering responsive acceleration, confident overtaking, and stable highway cruising.
Driving dynamics are enhanced by features such as multi-link rear suspension, selectable drive and steering modes, and an Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Brake Hold, providing a balanced combination of performance and ride comfort suitable for daily commuting and long-distance travel.
As a true seven-seater SUV, the X90 prioritises interior space and flexibility. The three-row seating layout comfortably accommodates families while providing generous storage capacity. With the seats configured appropriately, the vehicle offers up to 2,050 litres of luggage space, making it suitable for everything from daily errands to long balik kampung journeys. Roof rails capable of supporting up to 75 kg of cargo add further practicality, enabling owners to carry additional gear for road trips and outdoor activities.
Inside the cabin, the X90 focuses heavily on passenger comfort. Premium touches include Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated seats for the first and second rows, and power-adjustable seats for both the driver and front passenger. The driver’s seat features six-way power adjustment with lumbar support, while the front passenger benefits from a four-way power seat with a ‘Boss’ switch for added convenience.
Additional features include dual-zone automatic air conditioning with an air purifier, along with dedicated air vents for second- and third-row passengers to ensure consistent cooling throughout the cabin.
Connectivity is handled by a 12.3-inch infotainment display, which supports Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing drivers and passengers to seamlessly integrate their smartphones for navigation, entertainment, and communication.
Safety and convenience remain key priorities in the updated model. The 2026 X90 is equipped with a 360-degree HD camera with 180-degree transparent view, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and six SRS airbags.
Other practical features include Walk Away Auto Lock, Follow Me Home lighting, rain-sensing wipers, and multiple parking sensors, all designed to make everyday driving safer and more convenient.
According to Zhang Qiang, the X90 has gained strong traction because it delivers the essential qualities customers expect from a large SUV. “The Proton X90 has earned strong acceptance among Malaysian families because it delivers what many customers look for in a large SUV—space, comfort and confidence in a genuine seven-seater,” he said. The 2026 update, he added, enhances the driving experience while maintaining the practicality and comfort that owners value.
The 2026 X90 is available in three variants—Lite, Prime, and Prime X—allowing buyers to choose a configuration that suits their lifestyle and budget.
Customers can also select from several exterior colours, including Quartz Black, Marine Blue, Armour Silver, Snow White, and Jet Grey, all designed to complement the SUV’s bold and premium styling.
To support ownership confidence, Proton includes its Standard Ownership Package with every purchase. This package features:
- Pro-Warranty – five-year warranty with unlimited mileage and five years of free labour service
