Following its successful introduction in Malaysia, the All-New Proton Saga has marked its first international milestone with an official launch in Brunei Darussalam. The move underscores PROTON’s renewed export momentum and reinforces Brunei’s role as one of the brand’s most important overseas markets.
The launch is spearheaded by Proton International Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (PICSB), PROTON’s export division, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the company’s presence in regional markets. Brunei becomes the first export destination for the new-generation Saga, and notably the second PROTON model introduced in the country in 2026, following the arrival of the Proton X50 in January.
The All-New Proton Saga represents more than just a model refresh — it signals PROTON’s progression into a new era of Malaysian automotive engineering. Built on the company’s proprietary Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA), the sedan is the first export model to utilise this platform.
The AMA underpinnings bring improvements in structural rigidity, safety enhancements, and advanced connectivity features. Among its key upgrades are six airbags and a 12-inch infotainment head unit, elevating its competitiveness within the entry-level sedan segment. These refinements strengthen the Saga’s value proposition while reflecting PROTON’s ambition to deliver locally developed innovation beyond Malaysian borders.
Brunei holds a special place in PROTON’s international roadmap. As one of the brand’s earliest export markets, the country continues to serve as a launchpad for new models, supported by strong local reception and the dedicated efforts of local distributor PAD Motors.
The confidence behind this export push is supported by robust domestic performance. Since its Malaysian debut, more than 20,000 units of the All-New Saga have been registered, reaffirming its status as a key volume contributor for the company. Overall, PROTON recorded 6,000 export units last year, as it works towards a target of having exports account for 30% of total sales by 2030 and expanding its footprint to at least 32 countries.
The Saga’s export journey is closely linked to PROTON’s long-term industrial ambitions. Developments at the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) aim to position Tanjong Malim as a premier right-hand-drive automotive hub in the region, supported by advanced manufacturing capabilities and a strengthened supply chain ecosystem.
By leveraging its proprietary technology and investing in high-value manufacturing, PROTON is laying the groundwork to compete more assertively across ASEAN markets — particularly in the highly competitive entry-level segment.
