Porsche Malaysia has announced its participation in the 2026 season of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, marking another step in the brand’s commitment to nurturing Malaysian motorsport talent. For the upcoming championship, Malaysian driver Naquib Azlan will compete in the PRO category under Team Porsche Malaysia, supported by Earl Bamber Motorsport and Axle Motorsports.
The initiative reflects Porsche Malaysia’s broader vision of creating opportunities for local drivers to progress from grassroots and virtual racing platforms to the international motorsport arena.
According to Christopher Hunter, motorsport has long been a fundamental part of Porsche’s identity. With more than seven decades of racing heritage, the brand continues to champion performance and talent development. He noted that Porsche Malaysia is focused on providing meaningful pathways for aspiring drivers, whether they begin on a digital simulator or a real-world track.
At 26, Naquib Azlan represents a new generation of racers whose careers began in the world of esports. He first entered the motorsport scene in 2020 through competitive sim racing, where he developed racecraft, technical knowledge and strategic awareness before transitioning into real-world competition.
His breakthrough came in 2025 when he won the Driven Dreamers category in the inaugural Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia. The victory secured him a place in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Talent Pool programme, which is designed to identify promising drivers and support them with professional coaching, training camps and structured performance development.
The programme reflects Porsche’s long-standing commitment to cultivating motorsport talent within Asia.
What started as a virtual racing journey has now evolved into a full-season campaign in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia championship, widely regarded as one of the region’s most competitive one-make series. With identical race cars on the grid, success depends heavily on driver skill, consistency and race strategy.
As part of his preparation for the season, Naquib recently participated in the official test session at the Zhuhai International Circuit. During the test, he delivered an impressive performance by setting the fastest lap of the session with a time of 1:35.391.
The result highlighted his readiness to compete against some of the strongest drivers in the region.
Naquib shared that his passion for motorsport began through sim racing, where he quickly developed a deep interest in competitive racing. Winning the Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia proved to be a turning point, opening doors to opportunities he had never imagined.
He expressed pride in representing Porsche Malaysia on the international stage and credited the team, along with the support from Axle Motorsports, for helping guide his journey.
For the 2026 season, Team Porsche Malaysia will compete with a striking new race livery. The car will feature a bold blue base complemented by orange accents inspired by the Sime Motors brand colours.
The race machine itself is the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992.2), a purpose-built race car used across the Carrera Cup series globally. Adding a unique touch, the roof of the car will display the layout of the upcoming Porsche Experience Centre Singapore.
Scheduled to open in 2027, the Singapore facility will be the first Porsche Experience Centre in Southeast Asia and the 11th worldwide. The centre aims to deliver immersive driving experiences and further strengthen Porsche’s motorsport culture in the region.
Naquib will race throughout the season with car number 17.
The 2026 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia championship begins at the Shanghai International Circuit in China from 14 to 15 March. The season will then travel across several major circuits throughout Asia.
Later in the year, the championship will return to Malaysia’s iconic Sepang International Circuit for Rounds 9, 10 and 11. The race weekend will feature two sprint races alongside an endurance format, offering fans a thrilling showcase of competitive GT racing.
Naquib’s participation in the 2026 season represents more than just an individual career milestone. It highlights Porsche Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to establish a sustainable pathway for Malaysian drivers to compete at the highest regional levels.
By bridging esports and traditional motorsport, the programme demonstrates how modern racing careers can evolve from digital platforms to professional circuits.
As Team Porsche Malaysia heads to Shanghai for the opening round, fans will be watching closely as Naquib Azlan takes on one of Asia’s toughest racing grids while carrying the Malaysian flag onto the international stage.
