Malaysia’s transition to electric mobility takes another step forward as Gentari, in partnership with Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM), unveils its first high-speed intercity EV charging hub at PETRONAS Penchala Link. Strategically located along one of the Klang Valley’s busiest corridors, the new facility is designed to support the increasing number of electric vehicle (EV) users commuting between key urban centres.

The highlight of the upgrade is the installation of a powerful 200kW DC fast charger equipped with three charging nozzles. This new addition significantly enhances the site’s existing infrastructure, which previously featured a 24kW charger. With the 200kW unit in place, EV drivers can now reduce their charging time by approximately 20 minutes, gaining over 60% battery capacity during a shorter stop — a meaningful improvement for time-conscious commuters and intercity travellers alike.

Notably, the new charger is currently the only 200kW unit within a five-kilometre radius, providing much-needed high-speed charging access in the area. This development addresses growing demand for faster and more efficient charging options, particularly along highways that serve as vital connectors between residential, commercial, and business districts.

Beyond simply adding hardware, the initiative reflects LLM’s broader strategy to future-proof Malaysia’s highway infrastructure. By working closely with Gentari, LLM is reimagining highways not just as routes for travel, but as essential components of the country’s EV ecosystem. The collaboration ensures that charging stations are thoughtfully positioned based on traffic flow, travel patterns, and real-world usage demand.

As EV adoption continues to accelerate in Malaysia, the integration of high-speed charging hubs along major expressways will play a crucial role in boosting driver confidence. Developments like the PETRONAS Penchala Link charging hub demonstrate how public agencies and private energy providers can work hand in hand to create a seamless, reliable, and accessible charging network — paving the way for a more sustainable intercity travel experience.
