Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially launched the Golf R-Line in the Malaysian market, expanding its iconic Golf family following the model’s preview alongside the new Golf GTI last year. Positioned as a more lifestyle-oriented alternative to the performance-focused GTI, the Golf R-Line brings together sporty design, modern technology and everyday usability.

To mark its introduction, VPCM is offering an early bird price of RM179,990 for the first 50 customers. This special price includes the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), which covers five years of free maintenance, a five-year mileage warranty and five years of complimentary roadside assistance. The standard recommended retail price thereafter is RM185,990, also inclusive of the VAP.

Under the bonnet, the Golf R-Line is powered by a 1.5-litre eTSI mild-hybrid turbocharged engine producing 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. Paired with a smooth-shifting seven-speed DSG transmission, the powertrain delivers a refined and efficient driving experience, balancing responsive performance with improved fuel economy.

Locally assembled at Volkswagen’s Pekan plant, the Golf R-Line features a refreshed and aerodynamically enhanced exterior. Refined underbody panels and airflow improvements contribute to greater stability and efficiency. The front end is distinguished by sharper lines, a redesigned bumper and an illuminated Volkswagen emblem. IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights with a new high-performance main beam enhance visibility, while redesigned 3D LED taillights with dynamic turn signals and animated graphics add a premium visual touch.

The Golf R-Line rides on newly introduced ‘Coventry’ alloy wheels and is available in five exterior colours: Oryx White, Moonstone Grey, Grenadilla Black, Kings Red and Anemone Blue.

Inside, the cabin adopts a digital, driver-focused layout that combines comfort with a sporty character. Highlights include a tablet-style 12.9-inch infotainment display running Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 system, offering faster responses and built-in navigation. A 10-inch Digital Cockpit Pro provides customisable driving information, while the IDA voice assistant enhances hands-free convenience. Additional features include a heated leather sports steering wheel with physical buttons and shift paddles, three-zone Air Care Climatronic climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging and a seven-speaker sound system.

Safety is addressed through Volkswagen’s advanced IQ.DRIVE suite, which includes Auto Emergency Braking with pedestrian, bicycle and motorcycle detection, Adaptive Cruise Control with Travel Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Exit Warning, Park Distance Control, Driver Attention Detection, as well as Emergency, Side and Lane Assist systems.

Distinctive R-Line touches further elevate the model’s sporty appeal. Exterior enhancements include R-Line-specific front and rear bumpers, chrome exhaust finishers and side skirts. Inside, R-Line details such as a black headliner, brushed stainless steel pedals, carbon grey trim accents and R-Line upholstery with Artvelours inserts reinforce the car’s dynamic identity.
