From cross-country journeys in Peninsular Malaysia to intercity trips across East Malaysia, the upcoming all-electric Volvo EX60 is designed to make long-distance travel effortless and worry-free. Volvo Cars’ latest electric SUV sets a new benchmark by delivering up to an industry-leading 810 kilometres of driving range on a single charge in all-wheel drive form—surpassing every electric Volvo that has come before it.

This exceptional range marks a decisive shift in the electric vehicle experience. Rather than forcing drivers to plan trips around charging stops, the EX60 focuses on real-world usability, turning range anxiety into genuine peace of mind. Volvo’s engineers have optimised the SUV not just for laboratory figures, but for the way people actually drive every day.

According to Anders Bell, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo Cars, the EX60 represents a turning point for electric mobility. Built on a new electric vehicle architecture, the model directly addresses the key concerns holding some customers back from switching to electric—most notably range and charging speed. The result is a vehicle that combines class-leading distance capability with rapid recharging, making electric ownership more convenient than ever.

Beyond going further, the EX60 also recharges faster than any previous fully electric Volvo, regardless of weather conditions. With access to a 400kW fast charger, drivers can regain up to 340 kilometres of range in just ten minutes—short enough for a quick coffee stop rather than a lengthy break. To further boost confidence, Volvo offers EX60 owners a 10-year warranty on the battery.

At the heart of the EX60’s performance is Volvo Cars’ most advanced electric platform to date, known as SPA3. This architecture maximises efficiency across the vehicle’s systems, allowing the EX60 to achieve an electric driving range comparable to traditional petrol-powered vehicles. Key innovations include cell-to-body battery integration, which embeds the battery directly into the car’s structure, as well as in-house developed electric motors that reduce weight and improve energy efficiency.

The battery itself features a new cell design that carefully balances power output and energy density, extending range without compromising performance. Weight savings are further enhanced through Volvo’s use of mega casting technology, where hundreds of individual components are replaced with single, high-precision castings. Fewer parts mean less mass, better efficiency, and ultimately, longer driving distances.

Fast charging capabilities are enabled by an advanced 800-volt electrical system paired with Volvo’s proprietary software. Together, they allow energy to flow into the battery more efficiently while reducing heat generation. Intelligent charging algorithms developed with Breathe Battery Technologies constantly adapt charging behaviour, ensuring the battery remains within its optimal operating window in all climates.

As a fully electric vehicle with fewer moving parts, the EX60 also benefits from reduced maintenance requirements compared to conventional cars. This adds to its appeal as a practical, no-compromise solution for drivers ready to embrace the electric future.

The Volvo EX60 is scheduled to make its global debut on 21 January 2026, with the reveal event livestreamed worldwide. With its combination of exceptional range, ultra-fast charging, and cutting-edge engineering, the EX60 signals a new era of freedom and confidence in all-electric driving.
