Proton’s push into practical electrified mobility has taken a major step forward as Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET) successfully demonstrated the real-world long-distance capability of the all-new Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV. In a single continuous journey powered by one full battery charge and one full tank of fuel, the plug-in hybrid SUV covered an impressive 1,104.5 kilometres, while still retaining a remaining driving range of 189 kilometres.

The achievement was not just about distance. Throughout the journey, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV recorded fuel consumption as low as 3.7L/100km, reinforcing the everyday efficiency benefits of its plug-in hybrid system for Malaysian driving conditions.

To underline its practicality, the long-distance drive was conducted on public roads rather than under controlled test conditions. The route began in Penang and stretched 723 kilometres to Johor, before returning 381.5 kilometres to the Proton Centre of Excellence. The journey provided a clear, real-world showcase of how the e.MAS 7 PHEV performs during extended highway cruising, mixed traffic conditions, and long hours behind the wheel.

More than a headline-grabbing range figure, the drive highlighted the strength of the vehicle’s next-generation plug-in hybrid technology, which combines electric-first driving with intelligent engine support. The result is smooth performance, strong efficiency, and long-distance confidence without the stress of range anxiety.

Adding to the transparency of the demonstration, the entire 1,100+ kilometre journey was live-streamed over 25 hours via Proton e.MAS official social media channels, giving viewers an unfiltered look at the PHEV in action, accompanied by insights from PRO-NET representatives throughout the drive.

According to PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Mr Zhang Qiang, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV was developed to make advanced electrified technology accessible to a wider audience. He emphasised that the model is designed to meet real everyday needs, from urban commuting to long highway trips, without sacrificing affordability, efficiency, or reliability.

The long-distance achievement, he noted, demonstrates that Malaysians no longer need to choose between efficiency and range when adopting new energy vehicles.

At the heart of the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV is Proton’s EM-i Advanced Hybrid Technology, engineered specifically for real Malaysian driving conditions. Built on the GMA platform, the system integrates a hybrid-dedicated engine, an 11-in-1 Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), and a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery into a compact, intelligent powertrain.

Unlike conventional gearboxes, the 11-in-1 DHT acts as the main drive unit, seamlessly managing power delivery without traditional gear changes. Paired with a hybrid-dedicated Atkinson-cycle engine boasting a high thermal efficiency of 46.5%, the system maximises electric driving wherever possible while keeping fuel consumption low and driving refinement high.

Operating on an EV-first philosophy, the e.MAS 7 PHEV can drive like a pure electric vehicle for up to 80% of the time. The petrol engine intervenes smoothly only when additional power or efficiency is needed. Drivers can also select from three driving modes—Pure, Hybrid, and Power—allowing the vehicle to adapt effortlessly to city traffic, mixed driving, or more demanding situations on highways and rural roads.

Positioned as a dual-powered C-segment SUV, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV delivers efficiency levels comparable to much smaller cars. With fuel consumption rated at just 4.3L/100km, similar to an A-segment vehicle, it offers significant savings at the pump. Maintenance is also optimised, with service intervals set at once a year or every 15,000 kilometres—longer than many conventional internal combustion vehicles—resulting in lower overall ownership costs.

Bookings for the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV are now open nationwide. Interested customers can register via the official Proton e.MAS website or place a booking at authorised Proton e.MAS dealerships.
