BMW Group Malaysia has taken a decisive step forward in its electrification journey with the introduction of two significant fully electric models: the All-New BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro and the All-New BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport. Together, these models not only broaden BMW’s premium electric portfolio in Malaysia, but also underscore the brand’s long-term commitment to local production, innovation, and sustainable mobility.

At the heart of this announcement is a historic milestone. The BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro becomes the first fully electric BMW model to be locally assembled in Malaysia, and notably, across the Asia-Pacific region. Designed as a modern executive sedan, the i5 balances business-class comfort with sporting performance, while showcasing BMW’s extensively enhanced fifth-generation eDrive technology. With a WLTP-rated range of up to 627 kilometres and a comprehensive suite of intelligent driving assistance systems, the i5 sets a new benchmark for premium electric sedans in the local market.

Visually, the locally assembled BMW i5 presents a refined yet athletic presence. Flowing body lines are complemented by distinctive M Sport Pro elements, including the illuminated BMW Shadowline Iconic Glow kidney grille, Adaptive LED headlights with vertical daytime running lights, and slim LED taillights with Shadowline detailing. The M Aerodynamic wheels, gloss black M rear spoiler and high-gloss Shadowline accents reinforce its dynamic character, while a 490-litre luggage compartment ensures everyday practicality.

Inside, the BMW i5 delivers a thoroughly modern, driver-focused environment. The BMW Curved Display — combining a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen — anchors the cockpit and operates on BMW Operating System 8.5 for intuitive, smartphone-like interaction. Premium materials such as BMW Individual Merino leather, carbon fibre accents and Dark Silver M detailing elevate the cabin, while features including a panoramic glass roof, four-zone automatic climate control and fully electric sport seats enhance comfort. A Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System, paired with BMW IconicSounds Electric, completes the luxury experience.

Performance comes from a rear-mounted electric motor producing 250 kW (340 hp) and 430 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just six seconds. Advanced battery, thermal management and silicon carbide converter technologies support both efficiency and extended range. Charging capabilities include up to 22 kW AC charging and DC fast charging of up to 205 kW, allowing for 10–80% charging in just 34 minutes. Adaptive Suspension Professional with Integral Active Steering further enhances agility and ride comfort.

Complementing the i5 is the All-New BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport, a long-wheelbase variant of BMW’s compact electric Sports Activity Vehicle. With a wheelbase extended by 110 mm and an overall length increase of 116 mm, the iX1 eDrive20L focuses on improved rear passenger comfort and everyday versatility. Exterior highlights include an enclosed grille with Extended Shadowline trim, Adaptive LED headlights with M Shadowline accents and 19-inch M light-alloy wheels, while luggage capacity expands from 490 litres up to 1,600 litres.

Inside, the extended wheelbase delivers significantly improved rear legroom and kneeroom. The cabin features the BMW Curved Display and BMW Operating System 9, alongside a panoramic skyroof without a central bar for an enhanced sense of space. Comfort-focused upgrades include revised sport seats, wireless charging, and a Harman Kardon sound system, blending practicality with premium refinement.

Powering the BMW iX1 eDrive20L is a front-mounted electric motor producing 150 kW (204 hp) and 250 Nm of torque, achieving 0–100 km/h in 8.6 seconds. Its 66.5 kWh battery delivers up to 433 kilometres of range (WLTP), with DC fast charging allowing 10–80% charging in just 32 minutes. Comprehensive driving assistance and parking systems come standard, reinforcing BMW’s focus on safety and ease of use.
