Proton Holdings Berhad has officially announced the appointment of Dato’ Abdul Rashid Musa as the company’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 November 2025. In his new role, Dato’ Abdul Rashid will report directly to Dr Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton, as the company continues its transformation journey in Malaysia’s automotive landscape.

A highly regarded figure within the industry, Dato’ Abdul Rashid brings with him over three decades of experience in engineering, manufacturing, and product development. His return to Proton marks a significant homecoming, as he previously served as the company’s Chief Technical Officer before taking on the role of Chief Executive Officer at Proton Edar. During his leadership at Proton Edar, he played an instrumental role in several major milestones, most notably the launch of the Proton X70 in 2018, a model that became a defining success story for the brand.

After his earlier tenure at Proton, Dato’ Abdul Rashid further expanded his portfolio at UMW Holdings Berhad, where he oversaw key divisions including the aerospace segment. His leadership also extended to spearheading initiatives in mobility, innovation, and sustainable development, all of which align with Malaysia’s broader national agenda to advance its industrial and environmental goals.

Welcoming him back, Dr Li Chunrong expressed his confidence in Dato’ Abdul Rashid’s leadership and deep understanding of the company’s operations. “Proton is delighted to welcome back Dato’ Abdul Rashid Musa. His wealth of experience and insight into the Malaysian automotive industry and his familiarity with our operations will play a key role in supporting our transformation and advancing the company’s growth,” said Dr Li.

Dr Li also took the opportunity to thank Ainol Azmil, who had served as Covering Deputy CEO from 10 June to 31 October 2025. Ainol’s steady leadership ensured operational continuity during the transition period.

Following the new appointment, Ainol Azmil will resume his responsibilities as Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Senior Director of Proton’s Group Technical Procurement division. Proton expressed its sincere appreciation for his dedication and capable leadership during his time as acting deputy.

With Dato’ Abdul Rashid’s return, Proton looks poised to accelerate its efforts in innovation, sustainability, and product development, reinforcing its position as a key player in Malaysia’s automotive industry and a growing force in the regional market.
