Grab Malaysia has announced a multi-faceted collaboration with government agency GIATMARA and automotive industry leaders BYD Sime Motors and CARSOME, designed to uplift and empower its driver community through upskilling, better earning opportunities, and smoother access to electric vehicle (EV) adoption.
According to Grab’s Director of Country Operations and Mobility, Rashid Shukor, the partnership underscores Grab’s ongoing commitment to enhance the livelihoods of its driver- and delivery-partners. “Our collaboration with GIATMARA through GrabAcademy empowers our partners with upskilling and reskilling courses so they can thrive within and beyond Grab. It also supports the government’s ongoing efforts to uplift this segment,” he said.
Rashid added that by joining forces with brands such as BYD Sime Motors and CARSOME, Grab is making upgrades more accessible while helping its partners enhance their income potential.
GrabAcademy — a key initiative under the GrabBenefits programme — has been a platform for learning and growth since 2017, offering skill-building courses in partnership with institutions like CARSOME Academy, Saito University College, and Aisya Rahman Advisory. Its financial literacy micro-credential courses, in particular, have helped thousands of drivers improve their financial management skills.
Under the new collaboration, Grab and GIATMARA will expand Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) access to Grab’s driver community nationwide. The training focuses on practical, job-ready skills such as:
- Vehicle maintenance and safety
- Logistics operations
- Basic electrical and EV knowledge
- Digital literacy and customer service
- Small-business and financial management
Courses combine flexible online modules available through GrabAcademy with hands-on training at GIATMARA centres, allowing drivers to learn at their own pace while gaining real-world experience.
Grab’s partnership with BYD Sime Motors, first launched in June 2025, continues to drive Malaysia’s EV transition. The collaboration began with the deployment of 10 BYD M6 all-electric MPVs available for booking at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Now, Grab driver-partners can enjoy rebates of up to RM25,000 on new EV purchases, along with a 2% parts rebate on any cash-paid vehicle services. This initiative lowers the entry barrier to EV ownership and opens opportunities to join higher-value ride categories.
In parallel, Grab’s continued collaboration with CARSOME enables affordable vehicle upgrades and trade-ins. Eligible driver-partners can receive:
- Up to RM3,000 discounts on vehicle purchases or trade-ins via CARSOME
- One-off fuel vouchers worth up to RM1,000, depending on service tier and trip completion requirements
These nationwide campaigns run from 7 October to 31 December 2025, and are open to both new and existing driver-partners.
Through its partnerships with GIATMARA, BYD, and CARSOME, Grab Malaysia is strengthening its ecosystem of empowerment, ensuring drivers have the tools, knowledge, and resources to achieve long-term sustainability and success.
By combining education, financial incentives, and EV innovation, Grab is not just improving the way Malaysians move — it’s helping those who move Malaysia forward build brighter, more resilient futures.
