As Malaysians prepare to celebrate Deepavali on Monday, 20 October 2025, AFA PRIME Berhad (formerly known as ANIH Berhad), the concessionaire for the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) and East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1), is implementing a comprehensive series of traffic management and safety measures to support the anticipated festive travel rush.

With many travellers expected to make the journey eastward for the long weekend, traffic along KLK and LPT1 is projected to rise significantly. Eastbound traffic towards Pahang and the East Coast is expected to peak between 17 and 19 October, while the westbound return flow to Kuala Lumpur will likely occur from 20 to 22 October.

AFA PRIME forecasts that daily traffic volume on the KLK will increase by 59%, from 110,000 to 175,000 vehicles, while the LPT1 will see a 67% rise, from 41,000 to 68,300 vehicles daily.

To accommodate this surge, AFA PRIME is increasing its operational workforce by 20.5%, deploying additional toll operators, patrol units, and traffic personnel to maintain smooth and safe highway operations. The company’s Traffic Control Centre (TCC) will maintain 24-hour real-time monitoring of both highways to coordinate responses and swiftly address any congestion, accidents, or breakdowns.

In collaboration with law enforcement agencies, Expressway Mobile Police Vehicles (EMPV) from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will be stationed at Gombak, Temerloh, and Kuantan to monitor traffic conditions and provide escort support when required. Officers from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will also be on standby at weighbridge stations across Gombak, Karak, Temerloh, Maran, and Kuantan, ready to assist in emergencies.

To further enhance safety and traveller comfort, RELA personnel will be deployed at rest and service areas (R&R) and lay-bys, offering 24-hour assistance to motorists throughout the festive period.

AFA PRIME has also upgraded facilities at key R&R locations to ensure comfort and convenience during the festive exodus. Selected stops now feature additional portable toilets and expanded parking areas, complemented by increased cleaning crews to maintain hygiene standards.

All petrol stations along KLK and LPT1 will operate round the clock, while EV owners can access GENTARI’s charging stations at Petronas R&R Gambang in both directions, ensuring smooth journeys for both conventional and electric vehicles.

Encik Ibrahim Tambi Cik Mohamad, General Manager and Head of AFA PRIME Berhad, emphasised the importance of safe and mindful travel during the holiday season.

“Deepavali is a celebration of light, joy, harmony and togetherness, a time when families reunite and journeys home hold deep meaning. As more Malaysians travel to celebrate this special occasion, our teams will be on full alert to ensure that every journey is safe, smooth and well-supported. We urge all motorists to drive considerately and plan ahead, so everyone can return home to share in the warmth and brightness of the festive season.”

For real-time traffic updates and emergency assistance, motorists can contact the LPT-Line at 1-700-818-700 or follow AFA PRIME’s official Facebook (@Lebuhraya Pantai Timur) and X (@LPTTrafik) channels.
