Zurich Malaysia has taken a significant step toward supporting the country’s growing electric vehicle (EV) community with the launch of Z-Driver EV Protect, a specialised insurance and takaful plan tailored exclusively for EV owners.
Unlike conventional motor coverage, Z-Driver EV Protect addresses the unique risks associated with electric mobility—covering not just the car, but also its battery, charging equipment, and even liabilities that may arise during charging. For an additional premium or contribution of just RM120, EV drivers gain access to protection that is practical, affordable, and designed for modern lifestyles.
“EV owners face a unique set of risks that go beyond traditional motor insurance and takaful. Z-Driver EV Protect is designed to address these concerns, offering practical coverage that reflects how EVs are used today,” said Foo Chuen Hou, Chief Distribution Officer, General Segment of Zurich Malaysia.
- Home wall charger coverage up to RM15,000
- Personal liability while charging up to RM50,000
- Portable charging cable protection up to RM2,000
- Compassionate allowance of up to RM20,000 for incidents at public charging stations
- Optional enhanced special perils protection, including battery damage caused by water ingress
These benefits complement the core features of the Z-Driver plan, such as unlimited towing in the event of battery depletion, ensuring drivers enjoy confidence and peace of mind wherever their journeys take them.
Zurich Malaysia has also partnered with Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Gentari Sdn Bhd, to raise awareness and strengthen EV charging infrastructure across Malaysia. Through this collaboration, Zurich’s brand presence now extends to 13 EV charging stations at high-traffic destinations such as Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, KLIA2 Gateway, The Gardens Mall, Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru, and more.
“Reliable charging infrastructure plays a pivotal role in enabling more Malaysians to embrace electric mobility. Our collaboration with Gentari is not just about increasing the number of chargers, it’s about helping to build a more connected and confident EV ecosystem,” said Teresa Wong, Chief Risk Officer – General Segment and Head of Sustainability Risk at Zurich Malaysia.
Aliah Nasreen Abdullah, Chief Customer Officer of Gentari Green Mobility, added:
“Together with Zurich Malaysia, we’re expanding the availability of EV chargers and enhancing the entire ownership experience, making it easier, safer, and more accessible for drivers to transition to clean mobility.”
With Z-Driver EV Protect and its collaboration with Gentari, Zurich Malaysia is tackling two of the biggest challenges to EV adoption: affordable protection and reliable charging infrastructure. The initiative not only strengthens customer confidence but also supports the nation’s transition toward a more sustainable and practical mobility landscape.
