The curtain will fall on the 2025 Michelin 24H SERIES European Championship this weekend (26–28 September) at the grueling 24 Hours of Barcelona, and Malaysia’s very own Viper Niza Racing is right in the fight for glory. The all-Malaysian outfit heads into the season finale with their Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO and a strengthened five-driver line-up, aiming to secure a top-three finish in the GT3-AM Class standings.
Currently joint-third with Hofor Racing, and just eight points adrift of class leaders Juta Racing, the fight for the title remains wide open. With 20 points awarded at the 12-hour mark and a further 40 points at the finish, the final standings will only be decided when the chequered flag waves on Sunday.
Despite missing the opening round at Mugello, Viper Niza wasted no time making their presence felt. The team impressed with a 6th overall and 2nd in GT3-AM at their debut in Spa-Francorchamps, before suffering heartbreak at Misano when a cracked oil sump forced a retirement. They bounced back at Paul Ricard in July, finishing 8th overall and 3rd in GT3-AM, proving their resilience and determination.
The 24 Hours of Barcelona, held at the 4.657km Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, presents a new level of challenge. Known for hosting Formula 1 and MotoGP, the circuit’s 14-turn layout will push teams to the limit, demanding not only speed but also consistency, strategy, and flawless execution.
To bolster their campaign, Viper Niza has added Aaron Lim and Afiq Yazid to their driver roster alongside Douglas Khoo, Dominic Ang, and Melvin Moh.
- Aaron Lim brings international pedigree, having raced in Formula BMW Asia, Formula Renault V6 Asia, and A1 Grand Prix for Malaysia. His GT résumé includes podiums in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, wins in the Thailand Super Series, and endurance triumphs such as the 25-Hour Thailand Endurance in 2022.
- Afiq Yazid, meanwhile, is one of Malaysia’s most decorated GT drivers. With four Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia titles and international wins across Europe and Asia—including a victory in the LMP2 Asia Le Mans Series—his endurance racing experience is expected to be a major boost.
Team Principal and lead driver Douglas Khoo emphasized the team’s mission: “We are certainly gunning for a top three finish in the championship. This would be an incredible result in our first year of joining the European Series, but the objective is to do it with a formidable all-Malaysian team and driver line up.”
Khoo also highlighted the challenge of Barcelona, recalling his 2022 experience in a Seat Cupra TCR, where the team completed 574 laps to finish 6th in class: “The 24-hour format is twice as demanding as the 12-hour races we’ve done this year. Pace, consistency, and problem-free execution will be key. The addition of Aaron and Afiq strengthens our push for maximum points.”
Viper Niza Racing’s campaign is supported by Motul, Endless & Momentum Autoparts, with IWC as the Official Watch Brand, and Jen Orchard Gateway Hotel Singapore as a partner.
As the green flag drops in Barcelona, all eyes will be on Malaysia’s Viper Niza Racing—an all-Malaysian team on the cusp of achieving a historic finish in their maiden European endurance racing season.
