Malaysia took another bold step towards sustainable mobility when the all-new Proton e.MAS 5 made its first public appearance at the National Day Parade in Putrajaya. More than just a car, the e.MAS 5 represents Proton’s mission to make electrification accessible to every Malaysian household.

Wrapped in camouflage inspired by Malaysia’s vibrant spirit and resilience since independence in 1957, the e.MAS 5 led the parade with pride. Accompanying it was a convoy of 12 e.MAS 7 units, proudly driven by their owners, showcasing the growing acceptance of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country.

Scheduled for launch in the fourth quarter of 2025, the e.MAS 5 will become the second model under the Proton e.MAS brand. Introduced in 2023, the brand reflects Proton’s long-term commitment to innovation and greener mobility.

Positioned as the nation’s first affordable EV, the Proton e.MAS 5 blends practicality, comfort, and safety. Despite its compact B-segment size, the hatchback offers the spaciousness of a C-segment car, making it suitable for families and young professionals alike.

With 32 storage compartments and a class-leading 70-litre frunk, the car is built for everyday convenience—whether it’s running errands, traveling with friends, or packing for a weekend getaway. Its nimble handling makes it well-suited for Malaysia’s urban environments while remaining sturdy enough to handle rougher road conditions.

Safety has also been made a priority. Equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems, the e.MAS 5 provides drivers with added confidence and peace of mind during their journeys.

The debut drew applause from parade-goers, many of whom stopped to snap photos of Proton’s latest innovation. Alongside the e.MAS 5, the e.MAS 7—the nation’s best-selling EV—demonstrated that Malaysian drivers are already ready for an electrified future.

“More than a new car, the Proton e.MAS 5 is a promise that electrification is for every Malaysian,” said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET. “The e.MAS 7 has shown the nation’s readiness for sustainable mobility, and now, the e.MAS 5 will make it even more accessible. To see both models celebrated at the Merdeka Parade is a proud moment, not just for Proton and PRO-NET, but for Malaysia.”

Ahead of its official launch, the e.MAS 5 is currently on the e.MAS Tour MISI 5, offering Malaysians the chance to get an exclusive first look at the upcoming EV. Its Merdeka Parade debut marked the first time the public had seen the hatchback in person—an occasion that underscored both national pride and Malaysia’s journey towards a cleaner automotive future.

As the Jalur Gemilang soared high in Putrajaya, the Proton e.MAS 5 stood as more than just a new car. It was a statement of unity, progress, and Proton’s vision of making sustainable mobility a reality for every Malaysian.
