Proton has taken a bold step into the era of connected mobility with the launch of the all-new Proton X50 RFID Edition, the first vehicle in the company’s history to feature Touch ‘n Go RFID technology as standard across all variants.

The move comes through a landmark partnership between Proton and Touch ‘n Go Sdn. Bhd., sealed with a Memorandum of Understanding at Proton’s Centre of Excellence in Shah Alam. Under this collaboration, every Proton X50 rolls off the Tanjong Malim production line pre-fitted with an RFID tag, allowing owners to seamlessly access Malaysia’s growing network of RFID-enabled highways from day one — no appointments, no installations, no hassle.

“This is about instant gratification,” said Praba Sangarajoo, CEO of Touch ‘n Go. “The moment you drive your Proton X50 out of the showroom, you’re already connected. It’s a leap towards smarter mobility, bringing everyday convenience right to your fingertips.”

The RFID Edition isn’t just about connectivity. Launched to strong market enthusiasm on 24 July, the new X50 has already delivered 2,000 units within three weeks, building on the SUV’s reputation as a B-segment leader. Beyond its RFID integration, it boasts a refreshed exterior and interior, state-of-the-art infotainment features, and a potent 1.5-litre i-GT turbocharged engine — all while maintaining its competitive pricing.

According to Zhang Qiang, Deputy CEO of Proton Edar, the partnership reflects Proton’s commitment to “Intelligence That Amazes”. “With more than 140,000 X50s produced to date, we’ve redefined value in our SUV lineup. By embedding RFID, we’re giving customers not just a car, but an enhanced mobility experience.”

Looking ahead, both companies are exploring the expansion of RFID integration across Proton’s future models, promising even greater convenience for Malaysian drivers.
