In a shining example of corporate responsibility and environmental stewardship, Proton has once again joined hands with Reef Check Malaysia (RCM) to restore and protect the natural beauty of Morib Beach in Banting, Selangor. This marks the second consecutive year the national carmaker has turned its attention to this ecologically important coastal area, reinforcing its long-term commitment to sustainability and marine conservation.
The cleanup event brought together a spirited team of 157 volunteers drawn from Proton staff, vendors, dealers, and banking partners. Their mission was clear — to remove as much waste as possible from the popular beach, located just an hour from Kuala Lumpur. Working throughout the main visitor area, the group collected a staggering 468.27 kilograms of rubbish, ranging from large discarded items to smaller pollutants like plastic straws and cigarette butts.
Morib Beach, cherished for its marine biodiversity and expansive mangrove ecosystems, has seen growing attention in recent years as communities and corporations alike work to protect its fragile environment. Proton’s latest efforts not only removed visible waste but also served to raise awareness about broader environmental issues such as marine pollution, the importance of mangroves, and the role individuals can play in reducing their environmental footprint.
“This collaborative effort at Morib Beach truly reflects the spirit of Proton,” said Ainol Azmil, Covering Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton. “By taking part in community work, we are not only contributing to a healthier environment but also strengthening our sense of teamwork and responsibility. It’s in moments like these that our core values — Teamwork, Achiever, Respect, and Integrity (TARI) — come to life.”
The cleanup also doubled as a learning experience, with participants gaining insight into how coastal ecosystems contribute to environmental balance and how data collection from such events can support the development of national marine policies.
Beyond environmental restoration, the initiative exemplified strong team synergy across Proton’s ecosystem, encouraging collaboration and shared responsibility. By integrating its TARI values into action, Proton demonstrated that corporate success and social responsibility can—and should—go hand in hand.
With two successful beach cleanups at Morib under its belt, Proton continues to pave the way for Malaysian corporates to play a more active role in environmental preservation, proving that even small, community-based efforts can make a meaningful impact on the planet.
