The roar of high-performance engines filled the air at the Gamuda Cove Experience Gallery in Selangor as Nissan GT-R enthusiasts from across Malaysia converged for the 2025 Malaysia GT-R Festival. Celebrating the legendary Japanese supercar, this gathering served as a high-octane prelude to the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur 2025.
The star attraction of the festival was none other than Hiroshi Tamura, affectionately known in the global automotive world as the “father of the modern GT-R.” Tamura, a former Chief Product Specialist at Nissan, was instrumental in the development of the iconic R34 Skyline GT-R and the R35 GT-R, as well as the next generation of Nissan Z models. This marked Tamura’s second consecutive visit to Malaysia, much to the delight of GT-R fans.
Festivities kicked off early in the day, with GT-R owners arriving from 9 a.m. onwards. The event featured a group photo session with the array of GT-Rs on display, followed by an exclusive luncheon and a highly anticipated meet-and-greet with Tamura. As part of the celebration, awards were presented for Best Tuning, Best Design, and Tamura’s personal favorite GT-R. The day culminated with a spirited convoy rollout of the supercars at 5:30 p.m.
“It’s incredible to host the second edition of the Malaysia GT-R Festival,” said Jason Yap, CEO of Element X Strategies, the official licensee of Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur. “After last year’s success in Penang, we’re excited to bring the festival to Selangor. This event is part of our lead-up to the Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur, which promises to be even bigger and more exciting this year.”
