In a bold demonstration of supply chain strength and regional commitment, BYD Malaysia and Sime Motors—Malaysia’s official distributor of BYD electric vehicles—have welcomed the arrival of the BYD Zhengzhou, a dedicated roll-on/roll-off (RORO) carrier vessel, to Port Klang. The vessel’s arrival marks a pivotal moment in the delivery of fully built-up BYD EVs to Malaysian consumers, streamlining logistics while supporting the nation’s transition to electric mobility.

The Zhengzhou is the seventh ship in BYD’s expanding fleet of purpose-built RORO vessels and boasts a 7,000-unit carrying capacity. This voyage is its first to Southeast Asia, with port calls scheduled in the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. Its docking at North Port underscores Malaysia’s strategic importance in BYD’s Asia Pacific expansion roadmap.

“This is a significant milestone in our partnership with BYD,” said Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors, Southeast Asia. “It symbolises confidence in Malaysia’s growing role as an EV hub. With this improved regional supply chain, we are now assured of shorter delivery times—enhancing customer satisfaction and preparing us to meet future demand more efficiently.”

The BYD Zhengzhou’s arrival signals more than just vehicle delivery—it represents a strategic pivot toward greater control of BYD’s global logistics. By operating its own shipping fleet, BYD eliminates reliance on third-party maritime logistics, ensuring faster, more reliable EV delivery across international markets.

“This vessel is central to our global strategy,” said Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd. “It reinforces our commitment to Malaysia and exemplifies how we are scaling up delivery capabilities to meet growing global demand. The Zhengzhou plays a crucial role in our ability to maintain delivery stability and meet customer expectations.”

The RORO shipping method used by the Zhengzhou, where vehicles are driven directly onto and off the ship, significantly reduces handling time and cost compared to traditional containerised shipping. This logistics advantage strengthens the BYD-Sime Motors partnership and helps deliver EVs to Malaysian customers with greater speed and efficiency.

Currently supported by a network of over 35 BYD outlets across Malaysia, Sime Motors aims to expand this footprint to 60 outlets by the end of 2026. This growing infrastructure is a vital component of the duo’s vision for accelerating EV adoption through not just sales—but also robust after-sales support and customer education.

With Malaysia positioned as a regional EV launchpad, the arrival of the Zhengzhou marks the beginning of a new era in automotive logistics and sustainable mobility, backed by innovation, strategy, and an unwavering commitment to cleaner transportation.
