Proton’s latest SUV sensation, the all-new Proton X50, has made a resounding debut following its official launch on 24 July 2025. Within just five working days, 999 units have been successfully delivered to eager customers nationwide—demonstrating the brand’s meticulous planning and strong demand for its B-segment best-seller.

According to Proton Edar Deputy Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang, the pre-launch strategy—which included a series of on-ground promotional activities—played a pivotal role in drumming up excitement. “We received tremendous support from potential car buyers who were impressed by the features offered, resulting in 5,000 bookings within the first 10 days before the price reveal,” he shared. As of 31 July, bookings have surged to 8,000, and 2,000 units have rolled off the production line in Tanjong Malim.

The rapid production and early deliveries reflect Proton’s commitment to minimizing customer waiting times. The company had strategically built up stock in advance to meet the anticipated demand and reward early adopters. With production momentum expected to remain strong, customers can look forward to shorter delivery periods in the coming months.

Beyond its impressive specs, the new X50 is a cornerstone of Proton’s strategy to engage a younger, trend-savvy demographic. With over 140,000 units sold since the X50’s original debut in October 2020, the refreshed model aims to sustain its top spot in the B-segment SUV category by evolving its appeal.

To amplify its youth-centric positioning, Proton collaborated with popular Malaysian music group De Fam for a new theme song and music video, which was launched alongside the vehicle. The brand also partnered with the upcoming Anugerah Melodi Terhangat (AMT) awards, where one lucky winner will take home a brand-new X50 in the inaugural Anugerah Pilihan Proton X50 Superstar segment.

“From musical collaborations and influencer tie-ins to launching at a pickleball venue and sponsoring AMT, we’ve created a 360° lifestyle campaign around the X50. These activations are designed to place the model at the heart of today’s culture and appeal strongly to younger buyers,” said Zhang.

The new Proton X50 comes with refreshed exterior and interior styling, enhanced ADAS Level 2 safety features, and the debut of a Bahasa Melayu voice recognition system—a global first. Under the hood, the SUV is powered by the new i-GT 1.5 TD engine paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox, delivering 181PS and 290Nm of torque. It boasts a 0-100 km/h time of just 7.6 seconds, along with a 4.7% improvement in fuel efficiency.

Offered in Executive, Premium, and Flagship variants, the X50 is priced at RM89,800, RM101,800, and RM113,300 respectively (OTR without insurance). Early buyers also stand to benefit from the “Gempak! Deal,” which offers a RM4,000 cash rebate for the first 10,000 units sold.
