Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET), the electric vehicle arm of national automaker PROTON, has announced a major milestone — the Proton e.MAS 7 has clinched the title of Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle for the sixth consecutive month. As of 30 June 2025, the model has chalked up a total of 4,003 deliveries, securing a commanding 23.4% market share in the country’s growing EV segment.
This steady lead not only cements the e.MAS 7’s popularity but also demonstrates Proton’s successful entry into the electric mobility market. More than just a domestic triumph, the e.MAS 7 is also gaining traction abroad. 250 units have been exported, with markets like Trinidad and Tobago representing the first wave of Proton’s global EV ambitions.
At the heart of the e.MAS 7’s success lies its reputation as a value-for-money, practical EV built for everyday use. By keeping pricing consistent across its variants, Proton has avoided the volatility often seen in EV pricing, further boosting customer confidence. This long-term view — prioritising trust and value over aggressive discounting — is a cornerstone of PRO-NET’s growth strategy.
“We truly appreciate the strong support Malaysians have shown for the e.MAS 7,” said Mr. Zhang Qiang, CEO of PRO-NET. “The overwhelming response has enabled us to grow steadily month after month. Our focus remains on building lasting trust and value for our customers.”
Behind the e.MAS 7’s success story is a deep-rooted commitment to engineering excellence and sustainability. Over 700,000 manhours were invested in the vehicle’s development, with more than 100,000 kilometres of local on-road testing to tailor the EV to Malaysia’s roads and driving habits. This meticulous approach ensures the e.MAS 7 aligns with Malaysia’s broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Even before launch, PRO-NET laid the groundwork by establishing a dedicated EV dealership network in early 2024. Each of the 35 dealerships received more than RM2 million in investment, resulting in facilities equipped with modern service bays, specialised EV tools, and DC fast charging infrastructure. These initiatives have already created over 700 new jobs, further contributing to national economic development.
Supporting this growing EV community is PRO-NET’s ongoing work to enhance public charging infrastructure. Through collaborations with ten charging point operators, the company has extended its Live Integrated Charging Map to over 3,300 charging locations — including 1,100 points within 390 high-rise residences.
These partnerships began in 2022 with an MoU signed with Gentari, and have since expanded to include Charge+, ChargeSini, RExharge, Charge N Go, JomCharge, chargEV, DC Handal, Carput Zap, and Shell Recharge. Together, they form the backbone of a robust EV ecosystem designed to make electric mobility accessible, convenient, and reliable for all Malaysians.
To make EV ownership more accessible, PRO-NET has launched the Power Exchange trade-in programme. Open to all vehicle brands and ages, the initiative offers a RM5,000 trade-in bonus, subject to inspection, providing a compelling reason for consumers to upgrade to a zero-emission lifestyle.
