Allianz Malaysia Berhad (Allianz Malaysia) has taken a major step forward in supporting the nation’s p-hailing community by collaborating with the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and top delivery platforms—foodpanda Malaysia, Lalamove Malaysia, and Grab Malaysia—to address the growing need for rider safety in the gig economy.
This collaboration was formally introduced at the Allianz Malaysia Media Forum 2025, where industry leaders gathered to discuss the road safety challenges faced by p-hailing riders and to develop strategic, community-driven solutions. As the p-hailing sector continues to grow rapidly due to rising demand for on-demand deliveries, so too does the urgency to protect the safety and well-being of the riders who power it.
“Rider safety is a shared duty,” said Sean Wang, CEO of Allianz Malaysia. “Beyond offering insurance, we are dedicated to supporting our communities with real, practical initiatives. Our goal is not just to protect lives, but to enrich them.”
P-hailing riders have become an essential part of Malaysia’s modern economy—delivering meals, parcels, and essential goods, often under high-pressure and hazardous conditions. Many of these riders are primary income earners for their families, making their safety on the road a matter of national concern.
The forum featured a panel discussion with representatives from MIROS and major p-hailing platforms, where the stakeholders shared insights and explored potential collaborations to uplift rider safety standards. While individual platforms have launched initiatives to safeguard riders, the consensus was clear: safety is a collective responsibility.
Representing MIROS, Ir. Ts. Azhar Hamzah, Director of the Human Factors and Road User Behavioural Centre, echoed this sentiment. “Our research helps identify the risks faced by riders daily. But it’s through partnerships like this that we can transform knowledge into meaningful action. Together, we can ensure safer roads for all.”
As part of its broader commitment, Allianz Malaysia is launching two safety-focused training programmes in collaboration with the Road Safety Marshal Club. The first initiative will deliver hands-on rider safety and road emergency survival training for active p-hailing riders, complementing the safety efforts already underway within companies like Grab, Lalamove, and foodpanda. The second programme is tailored for university students, instilling road safety awareness early and nurturing a generation of responsible road users.
“These programmes reflect our long-term vision,” said Sean. “By equipping both current riders and future drivers with the right knowledge, we can create a more safety-conscious society.”
The Allianz Malaysia Media Forum 2025 served as a powerful reminder of the critical role p-hailing riders play in everyday life—and the need to protect them. With strategic partnerships, targeted education, and a commitment to shared responsibility, Allianz Malaysia is leading the way in ensuring that these modern-day road heroes can deliver safely and securely.
