After a 12-year hiatus, the thunder of Japan’s premier touring car championship returned to Malaysian soil in spectacular fashion. The 2025 AUTOBACS SUPER GT Malaysian round, held at the iconic Petronas Sepang International Circuit from 27–28 June, attracted a staggering 75,977 fans — nearly double the projected turnout — marking a historic comeback for the series in the region.
The unexpected wave of support delighted event promoter and rights holder HARO Sports & Entertainment, whose Managing Partner Fahrizal Hasan expressed heartfelt gratitude to both local and international motorsport fans: “We would like to underline our utmost appreciation to all Malaysian and international fans for their strong support of the race. We are already looking into ways to enhance this experience for fans in 2026.”
Originally scheduled for 2020, the Malaysian round had been delayed by the global pandemic. Yet the unwavering commitment of all stakeholders, including the GT Association (GTA), sponsors, and government agencies, ensured that the dream of bringing SUPER GT back to Malaysia never faltered.
Beyond the high-octane racing, the event was transformed into a full-fledged motorsport carnival through the SUPER GT Malaysia Festival. Fans were treated to a Japanese-themed cultural and food festival, a post-race GT Live concert, an extensive automotive exhibition, autoshow, and exclusive merchandise sales.
Supporting races added to the excitement, with the inaugural GR86 Cup Malaysia Series and Round 2 of the Toyota GAZOO Racing Malaysia Vios Challenge adding more competitive action to the weekend.
In a moment that thrilled the crowd, HARO Sports & Entertainment, in collaboration with Mastercard, surprised attendees with a giveaway of a manual Toyota GR Supra 3.0 worth RM650,000. The lucky winner, Miss Au Tzi Hua, was chosen from ticketholders who purchased selected packages using Mastercard, the event’s official Payment and Experience Partner.
Looking ahead, HARO Sports & Entertainment unveiled an even more ambitious plan for 2026: Malaysia has secured consent from GTA for a GT500 wildcard entry—the premier class of SUPER GT racing. Fahrizal described the development as a “great honor” and hinted at ongoing discussions to finalize the manufacturer and driver lineup that will represent Malaysia in this top-tier class.
The 2025 SUPER GT Malaysian round also featured two Malaysian wildcard entries in the GT300 class, with Jazeman Jaafar and Adrian D’Silva racing for the EBM-GIGA Racing Team, proudly flying the national flag.
Endorsed by Tourism Malaysia and Tourism Selangor, the event is part of the broader Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and Visit Selangor 2025 campaigns, highlighting Malaysia’s growing reputation as a global motorsport and tourism destination
With SUPER GT’s return to Malaysia confirmed until at least 2027 and the promise of even greater spectacles in 2026, the stage is set for Malaysia to become a permanent fixture in one of the world’s most exciting GT racing championships.
