Proton and Grab Malaysia have strengthened their strategic alliance to better serve the e-hailing community, expanding a partnership that continues to provide impactful mobility solutions across the country. With the inclusion of the Proton S70 and the premium X-Series models into the vehicle selection, this enhanced collaboration is designed to offer Grab driver-partners more options, more value, and greater long-term support as they navigate the fast-paced world of ride-hailing.
The latest development builds on the successful “Saga Power Up for Grab Driver-Partners” initiative launched in November 2024, which generated significant traction with 220 leads and 148 vehicle registrations for the Proton Saga. Recognising the success of that campaign, both companies have doubled down on their shared mission: to provide reliable, affordable, and practical transport solutions for Malaysia’s gig economy.
Now, Grab driver-partners will be able to choose from a broader portfolio of Proton vehicles, including models that fit within GrabCar Plus and GrabCar (6-Seater) categories. This not only widens the appeal for riders but also allows drivers to tailor their vehicles to meet specific market needs.
To further incentivise participation, Proton and Grab Malaysia are rolling out a host of new benefits:
- Cash rebates up to RM13,000
- A 5% service discount valid for two years or up to 40,000 km
- RM500 in fuel support to help ease the burden of early ownership costs
A formal signing ceremony was held at Proton’s Centre of Excellence headquarters to commemorate the expansion. Present were key representatives from both companies, including Zhang Qiang, Deputy CEO of Proton Edar; Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations & Mobility for Grab Malaysia; and other senior leaders from their sales, after-sales, and strategic supply teams.
“Our strengthened partnership with Grab Malaysia marks a crucial step in empowering the e-hailing sector,” said Ong Chee Wooi, Deputy Director of Sales at Proton Edar. “We’re proud to introduce the S70 and X-Series models into this programme, helping gig workers access dependable, cost-effective vehicles that support their livelihood.”
Echoing this sentiment, Grab Malaysia’s Rashid Shukor commented, “This collaboration has made it easier for our driver-partners to access vehicles, earn a sustainable income, and upgrade their services. By broadening the vehicle lineup, we’re also helping drivers better meet the rising expectations of today’s passengers.”
This continued collaboration represents more than just vehicle supply—it signifies a deepening commitment to the growing community of e-hailing drivers who rely on flexible, trustworthy partnerships to support their daily work. With a vision aligned on modernising mobility and enhancing accessibility, Proton and Grab Malaysia are steering Malaysia’s ride-hailing landscape toward a smarter, more inclusive future.
