Proton’s global electric vehicle (EV) strategy reached another milestone with the official launch of its first EV model, the Proton e.MAS 7, in Trinidad and Tobago. This marks the Caribbean nation’s debut with Proton’s electric lineup, making it the second international market—after Nepal—to welcome the e.MAS 7, just three months after its global rollout began.

The launch event, held in Port of Spain, was officiated by Jean-Marc Mouttet, Sector Head of ANSA Motors Limited, and Alexander Sabga, General Manager of New Business Development at ANSA McAL Ltd. As Proton’s official distributor in Trinidad and Tobago since 2013, ANSA Motors continues to be a key partner in bringing Proton’s latest automotive innovations to the region.

Coinciding with the EV’s arrival, ANSA Motors also opened a new, state-of-the-art EV showroom at The City of Grand Bazaar. The facility is designed to offer customers an immersive experience with the brand’s EV technology, providing education, personalized support, and a look at Proton’s growing electric lineup. The new showroom signals a strong commitment to meeting the evolving demands of the EV customer base in the Caribbean.

The launch follows the recent entry of the Proton X50 and X90 into the local market, both of which have seen positive reception. To date, 481 Proton vehicles have been exported to Trinidad and Tobago, including 271 X50s, 141 X90s, and 44 Saga models. Their success has set the stage for the e.MAS 7, which already ranks as Proton’s third most popular export model, behind only the Saga and X50.

Offered in Premium specification, the Proton e.MAS 7 is a feature-packed electric SUV boasting a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.1 seconds, and 160kW of power with 320Nm of torque. Equipped with advanced Aegis Short Blade battery cells, its 60.22 kWh battery offers an impressive WLTP-rated range of 410 km, meeting the performance and range needs of local drivers.

Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Director of Proton International Sales Division, highlighted the significance of this launch, stating:“Proton’s journey with the e.MAS 7 into the Trinidadian market is a significant moment for the company. It strongly reflects our commitment to leading the adoption of EVs in the nation and marks another pivotal step in our international expansion.”

Looking ahead, Proton aims to expand the e.MAS 7’s presence to additional international markets, including Mauritius and Singapore, reinforcing its ambition to be a key player in the global EV landscape.
