Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has taken a bold leap into the future with the debut of the all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology – a fully electric version of the legendary G-Class, now redefined for a new era of luxury, off-road performance, and sustainability. The electrified G-Class fuses decades of heritage with revolutionary engineering, showcasing that true icons don’t change – they evolve.
Staying faithful to its unmistakable boxy silhouette and time-honoured design cues, the G 580 with EQ Technology retains its iconic personality while embracing advanced electric mobility. This new era of the G-Class doesn’t just promise zero-emissions driving – it redefines what electric performance means off-road.
Powering the new G 580 are four individually controlled electric motors, integrated close to the wheels for unmatched precision and agility. This setup delivers a total of 432 kW (579 hp) and an astonishing 1,164 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 4.7 seconds. Torque vectoring creates virtual differential locks, offering maximum grip in any situation, while a LOW RANGE off-road gear reduction system ensures the electric G performs just as fearlessly off-road as its combustion-engine predecessors.
With a 116 kWh lithium-ion battery housed in a steel-protected ladder frame, the G 580 delivers up to 473 km of WLTP-certified range. A 200 kW DC fast charging capability allows for a 10–80% top-up in just 32 minutes. The battery’s robust construction ensures uncompromised off-road durability, even in deep water or muddy trails, thanks to a maximum fording depth of 850 mm.
From up to 100% gradeability and a minimum 250 mm ground clearance to a 35° sideways slope capability, the G 580 is engineered to conquer the harshest terrains. Adaptive adjustable damping, reinforced suspension components, and a new De Dion rear axle give it superior ride stability and articulation. Unique features such as G-TURN (720° pivot on the spot), G-STEERING (tight-radius torque steering), and intelligent off-road crawl modes make tackling tough terrain effortless and exhilarating.
Mercedes-Benz has equipped the G 580 with a multi-stage high-voltage safety concept, stone-chip resistant underbody protection, and a transparent bonnet view via a 360° camera system. The ECO Assistant promotes energy-efficient driving by analysing route data and traffic situations in real time, adjusting recuperation and speed accordingly.
Though electric, the G 580 doesn’t go quietly. G-ROAR offers a distinctive, bass-heavy acoustic profile inspired by the G-Class’s V8 heritage. Sound profiles adapt based on drive modes, and include ambient “aura” sounds and response tones for unlocking, starting, and charging.
Inside, the G 580 features nappa leather upholstery, AMG carbon-fibre trim, ambient lighting, and Burmester® 3D surround sound. MBUX with a dual 12.3-inch display setup delivers intuitive infotainment with voice assistant and augmented reality navigation. The new OFFROAD COCKPIT presents vital off-road data such as steering angle, torque, compass, and elevation, all at a glance.
The G 580 retains signature round headlights and upright stance, enhanced with black-panel grille, LED lighting animations, and aerodynamic touches like air curtains and roof spoilers. It rides on 20-inch AMG alloy wheels and includes a body-coloured rectangular utility box on the rear door for cable and tool storage.
Buyers can customise extensively through the MANUFAKTUR programme, which offers over a million combinations of colours and materials, including full nappa leather interiors and exclusive trims. The launch-exclusive EDITION ONE variant stands out with unique blue highlights, MANUFAKTUR detailing, and a signature “G – STRONGER THAN TIME” welcome projection.
