After more than a decade away, Malaysian automotive giant Proton is making a bold return to Singapore, reentering the market with its first-ever electric vehicle (EV), the Proton e.MAS 7. The much-anticipated SUV will make its Singaporean debut at The Car Expo 2025 this weekend, offering the public a sneak preview of the model that recently saw its international premiere in Nepal.
The e.MAS 7’s arrival comes on the back of impressive domestic success, having clinched the title of Malaysia’s best-selling EV in the first four months of 2025. Proton’s re-entry into Singapore is spearheaded by a new strategic partnership with VINCAR Group, the brand’s newly appointed authorised distributor in the island nation.
Singapore, known for its high per-capita GDP and strong focus on sustainability, presents a prime market for the e.MAS 7. VINCAR will lead the retail operations under the e.MAS brand, aiming to meet the growing demand for high-quality electric vehicles that cater to the country’s dense urban landscape.
This relaunch couldn’t be timelier. Singapore is rapidly transitioning toward a greener transport ecosystem, with EVs now making up 18% of new car registrations—up from 12% in 2022—and projections indicating this could rise to 55% by 2027. The government’s robust infrastructure development plans include deploying 12,000 EV charging points in public housing carparks by 2025 and scaling up to 60,000 by 2030, supporting the national goal of achieving 100% cleaner-energy vehicles by 2040.
The Proton e.MAS 7 stands out with a sleek, aerodynamic profile (boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.275), and is packed with next-gen technology. It comes equipped with a high-performance 12-in-1 electric drive system, an Aegis short blade battery, and a futuristic interior anchored by a 15.4-inch 2.5K touchscreen running Flyme Auto. Other standout features include a 7nm intelligent cockpit chip, full LED lighting, and a spacious, tech-enhanced cabin ideal for city driving.
Singaporeans attending the Car Expo can explore both Prime and Premium variants of the e.MAS 7 at booth D25 in Singapore EXPO Halls 3 & 4. The SUV will be offered in six contemporary colours: Platinum Silver, Turquoise Green, Slate Grey, Quartz Rose, Lithium White, and Moyu Black.
In Malaysia, the strong reception—over 6,000 bookings to date—signals growing consumer readiness to adopt EVs, especially when they combine style, technology, and performance.
“The debut of the Proton e.MAS 7 in Singapore marks a significant step in our international expansion and our commitment to bringing high-quality, technologically advanced EVs to the region,” said Dr. Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton. “We are confident that the e.MAS 7, with its compelling features and suitability for urban environments, will resonate well with Singaporean drivers as the nation embraces electric mobility.”
With its return, Proton is not just reviving a brand presence in Singapore—it is aligning itself with a forward-looking mobility revolution, offering a sustainable, high-tech driving experience for a greener tomorrow.
