Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET) is celebrating a defining moment in its journey toward transforming Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape. The company’s Chief Branding Officer, Puan Salawati Mohd Yusoff, has been honoured with the Malaysian CMO Award 2024 by MARKETING Magazine Asia—a recognition that highlights visionary marketing leadership with far-reaching business impact.

The award spotlights individuals who transcend traditional branding roles, driving growth, transformation, and strategic innovation. For Puan Salawati, branding is more than aesthetics—it’s about forging authentic, lasting connections with the community.

“It’s truly humbling to receive this recognition,” said Puan Salawati. “Branding is never just about logos or taglines. It’s about connecting with people in a real and meaningful way. I’m grateful for the opportunity to shape how Malaysians experience our brands, and even more thankful to be surrounded by a team that shares the same passion and purpose.”

Under Puan Salawati’s leadership, PRO-NET has adopted a purpose-driven branding approach that puts customers first, fosters trust, and maintains a strong, consistent voice. These efforts have significantly contributed to the success of its two flagship brands—smart Malaysia and Proton e.MAS.

smart Malaysia has quickly become a standout in the premium EV segment. The smart #1 model was ranked among the top three electric SUVs priced above RM180,000, while the smart #3 garnered multiple awards including:

  • Best Compact Premium EV at the Car of the Year (COTY) 2024 Awards
  • Best Electric Luxury Compact All-Wheel Drive Crossover or SUV by the Star Carsifu Editor’s Choice
  • Car of the Year and Crossover of the Year (Below RM200,000) from MARii

On the global stage, PRO-NET was recognised as the Best Overseas Pioneer Partner by smart Automobile, cementing its role in expanding the smart brand’s presence across Southeast Asia.

While smart Malaysia shines in the premium space, the Proton e.MAS brand is redefining mass-market EV adoption. Launched by Malaysia’s Prime Minister in December 2024, the Proton e.MAS 7 quickly captured public attention—and the market.

In just 75 days post-launch, over 1,000 units were delivered. That number has since surged to over 2,700 units, giving the e.MAS 7 a dominant 26% share of Malaysia’s EV market. For four consecutive months, it has held the title of the country’s best-selling electric vehicle.

PRO-NET CEO Mr. Zhang Qiang praised the achievement, noting that Puan Salawati’s recognition reflects the collaborative strength of the entire team.

“This recognition is a proud moment not just for Puan Salawati, but for all of us at PRO-NET,” said Mr. Zhang. “Her dedication and leadership have played a key role in how our brands are seen and embraced by Malaysians today. As we continue to grow and lead in the EV space, this achievement reminds us that building a strong brand is truly a collective journey.”

PRO-NET’s milestones underscore its commitment to accelerating Malaysia’s transition to sustainable mobility. Through visionary leadership, innovative branding, and a customer-first mindset, the company is not only winning awards—it’s shaping the future of transport in Malaysia.

The Malaysian CMO Award honours trailblazers like Puan Salawati who prove that bold, human-centric branding can power real business transformation—and help drive a nation forward.
